By

Whaaat!! Holy Moly McKnight… Ok, this is f’in us up right now. Brian McKnight, 16x Grammy Award nominee, and R&B veteran must of just woke up with the jones in his bones when he decided to do this…

Even knowing dude had crazy groupies, and crazy practice in this area, whaaat! You are gonna some me how whaat works!

The video has gone viral of course and Brian took to Twitter to voice some thoughts, “Funny how most of these folks have never been on my timeline when i wrote safe songs hmmmmm one sex filled song and im trending lol,” he wrote. “Its just sad that this is what i had to do to get most of these people to even acknowledge me.”

Please tell us what you think of this…

I like this song…BUUUUUUT. My only problem is, it sounds like a Brian McKnight song (classic) with newer, raunchier lyrics… I like the lyrics and subject matter but the lyrics and sound dont go together to me… the subject matter begs for a more current sound to me. It feels confused.

I see where he’s going with this “mixtape” in terms of maturity. Me being a long time fan and admirer of Brian McKnight’s, I am kind of surprised that he would go this route. It’s not like he hasn’t made songs that cover a broad spectrum of “maturity,” it’s just that it feels a bit crass and unnecessary to use the word “pu**y.” It’s kinda like hearing a beautiful melody and suddenly– you hear a flat chord that throws you off and breaks the flow. Personally, I think he could’ve used something more vague and leave it open to interpretation. The rest of the lyrics will obviously scream “adult” but in the chorus, I’d say something more simple like “Let me show you how IT really works…” Leave the rest of the chorus the same so when everyone hears “Bet you didn’t know that it could squirt” they can come to their own conclusion. Also, just as Ivan said above, melodically the song sounds very similar to most of his songs. By trying to use “shock” value via lyrics, it almost seems like that is the only one-trick pony to make this any different from his other stuff. I don’t have a problem with adult music and pushing the envelope. I’d just suggest being more creative with lyrics so that you can play with your audience on a subliminal level.
