Eric Bellinger The Rebirth Album

#18. Eric Bellinger – ‘The Rebirth’

Eric Bellinger has been leveraging success as a songwriter into a full career as an R&B artist for a few years. Following momentum he created in 2013, the L.A. native released his first independent album, The Rebirth, in early 2014.

The two-disc set was not only his way of showing further strength as an artist, but to help introduce some of his past material to new fans. Led by the club single “I Don’t Want Her,” the album sways heavily on the sexy side of R&B, with clever songs of modern dating and bedroom exploits.

On “Gift & Curse,” Bellinger sings about getting to a peaceful place between his ex and his new girlfriend, but on “Catch 22” he admits that he doesn’t love an ex anymore, however he still doesn’t want to see her with another man. On standout second single “Kiss Goodnight,” Eric borrows from the classic Blackstreet single “Before I Let You Go,” offering a catchy and sexy update to the ‘90s R&B ballad.

Bellinger certainly solidified his position as one of young R&B’s most promising new acts with this noteworthy body of work, and offered multiple entries into bedroom playlists. – J.W.

I liked Mariah’s album as well. I’m still shocked that not to many people got to hear it. Dave Hollister and Johnny Gill and Dave Hollister’s albums were also pretty decent.

D’Angelo definitely had my favorite album last year.

Chris Brown & August Alsina had some good albums too but that’s about it. I hope Badu and Soulchild come with some heat this year.
