Alicia Keys Premieres “Unlock Yourself” with Lyric Video

By

Alicia has really mastered these lyric videos, but her latest is a special release, for a special record. The new song entitled “Unlock Yourself,” is a piece she wrote exclusively for her newly released app, The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee. A fantasy world is revealed in the visual for the main theme to the children’s storytelling app, developed by Keys and her company AK Worldwide in association with Bento Box Interactive.

The new app allows users to play music, write in a journal, and read books, all in the interactive bedroom of main character LeeLee, a girl from New York City with a strong relationship to her grandmother. The story is loosely based on Keys’ relationship with her own grandmother. “It does remind me of my world,” said the multi Grammy winner. “The piano, the journal, music’s such a big part of my life, the city, all of that.”

But her main inspiration came from her 2-year-old son Egypt. “I was just getting introduced to kind of the TV shows and the DVDs and all the things you start kind of introducing your kids to, and I thought how cool it would be to be a part of something that really allows them to hear music from different places, different cultures, different sounds,” she said.

Watch the official lyric video above, and for those of you with young children you can pick up the app in the Apple app store now.
