Beyonce Opens Cosmetology School

By

Beyoncé Knowles came to Brooklyn Friday to celebrate the opening of a school in her name at the Phoenix House. It’s called the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center, based inside the residential substance abuse and recovery house, as a way to teach women and men a life skill so they can get back out into the workforce. Beyoncé and her mother, Tina, came up with the idea of the center together after they visited the Phoenix House in 2007. The music icon grew up in her mother’s salon in Houston. She said it had a big impact on her life. She and her mother have pledged an annual $100,000 to the school. Borough President Marty Markowitz declared Beyoncé a Brooklynite by “marriage and by moxie.”
