Sevyn Streeter Says She’d Rather Get Paid From Heartbreak, Sings “Say It” Remix

Screen Shot 2015-10-12 at 11.09.40 AM

Sevyn Streeter has exceeded all expectations as a young girl out of Haines City, Florida. Only after a few minutes of sharing a couch with the singer her genuine and light hearted ora was easily felt as she explained how she ended up with her stage name. Born as Amber Streeter, she gives thanks to her parents Tim and Karen for the name that helped her reach fame. Her mother gave birth to her at seven months, on the seventh month and the seventh day, and since it’s been impossible for her to escape the lucky number and soon just claimed it.

In this exclusive interview with the Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter, she tells me how she overcame the struggles of transitioning into a solo artist, and finding balance between fame and reality, and gives the ladies some relationship advice. This past week it was revealed that her relationship with rapper B.O.B is history. No shade, but Sevyn seemed unbothered with the idea of being single and shared how to turn heartbreak into a pay check. When asked how many “get out of jail free” cards do you give a man, she bluntly stated:

“We all have that place that if the right person pushes you, you can go there. You know your limit and the limit is different for every woman, but for me it’s like that limit right before you cause me to hop all the way out of my character. I’m not gonna let you do that!”

Most artists in a vulnerable state, whether it’s a breakup, a tragedy, or new transition will turn to their craft to release the negative energy and create a memorable body of work. Staring directly in the camera she goes on to say: “I’ll write a song about you before I let you do that and I’ll make paper off of you before I let you do that.”

During the interview, Sevyn also shared her thoughts on the separation between women in R&B and her dreams to one day get powerhouses Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Tinashe, Jazmine Sullivan, etc. all in the booth for a new age women’s anthem. It’s been entirely too long since a “Lady Marmalade” esque record has been released and the strongest women in music are responsible to make it happen.

Take a look at the full interview below and watch her sing her remix to Tory Lanez’s “Say It” as well!

New Music: Sevyn Streeter – Say It (Tory Lanez Remix)

Sevyn is 2 for 2 this week.

While yesterday brought forward a previously unreleased track featuring Emanny, the songstress has now taken her turn at Tory Lanez buzzing single, “Say It“.  Challenging herself over the weekend by saying: “I fux with Tory Lanez ‘say it’ record. Might need to flip it and give the female response,” Sevyn has definitely accepted and passed the challenge.

Claiming that she’s here to make the ladies proud by talking wild on this sh*t, Sevyn professes her love for the man that she wants so badly. Singing out, “If you say I’m on your mind, you gone need to spend more time to prove it / ‘Cause I want you too, baby,” Sevyn provides her melodic take on the Brownstone sampled song, that has been building in popularity.

She wasn’t the only one to recently cover the song either, Ed Sheeran surprised fans with a unique cover of it over the weekend, uploading his remake to a Soundcloud account named “alright-tory-mate.”
