ThisisRnB Presents: 16 Albums To Sweat In 2016

2015 was truly an excellent year in music, and it may seem hard to top, but looking into 2016 we are remaining optimistic.  While last year saw the surprise comeback of music icon Janet Jackson, return of powerhouse female vocalists Jazmine Sullivan, Tamia and Jill Scott, along with a monster crossover by The Weeknd, there is plenty more to look forward to this year.

With R&B continuing to reach vast audiences of varying age groups, tastes and styles, there will be something for everyone once again in 2016.

An exciting class of newcomers, lead by the likes of Kehlani and Tory Lanez, bring some of the most anticipated debuts. Strong 2nd and 3rd albums are expected by some of the already established current stars like Tinashe and K. Michelle, while anticipated comebacks by veterans like Usher, Tweet, and the Queen Bey will surely top most fans sweat list.

Get a sneak peek into the albums that we are most excited to see and hear this year, with our “16 Albums To Sweat in 2016” below!

Sevyn Streeter Gives Fans Acoustic Performance of “Love In Competition”

Right in time for the New Year, Sevyn Streeter gives us something new from something a little older.

Lifted from her Shoulda Been There Pt. 1 EP that was released last year, the talented songstress flexes her vocals one time with an acoustic performance of “Love In Competition.”

Backed by a single guitar player, Sevyn sings out about another woman possibly catching the attention of her man. Sevyn’s debut album – and hopefully the follow-up to the aforementioned EP – is set to see its release this year.

New Music: Sevyn Streeter – Don’t (Remix)

Sevyn Dont

She’s back and she’s better…

Sevyn Streeter continues to bless us with her take on some of the year’s hottest tracks. Following “Say It” and “Drama,” of course the R&B singer/songwriter had to jump on Bryson Tiller’s “Don’t.”

Making her case for why she should be the one under a certain man’s arm Sevyn states her campaign.

“Boy, you say she spend up everything / She keep begging for a ring, don’t bring nothing to the table / What a shame / If you were mine it would not be the same / I’d put the car and the house in my name,” she sings.

New Music: Sevyn Streeter – Drama (Roy Wood$ / Drake Remix)

Sevyn Streeter_103962-300 (1)

As Sevyn Streeter is still finding herself on a high from her latest EP, Shoulda Been There, the singer-songwriter has been busy giving some of our favorite tracks the Street treatment. Following her standout cover of Tory Lanez “Say It,” she now takes on OVO’s own Roy Wood$ collaboration with Drake titled “Drama.”

Revamping the words to tell the story of a girls night out, Sevyn delivers a recap of a time that most women can understand.

Singing out, “Every girl that I know has been in this position / Every girl that I know, know exactly how that sh*t be goin’ / That one friend every time you out, that be always fightin’ with her n*gga / He might as well came to the club, ’cause you feel like he already with us,” Sevyn reminds us that she’s definitely not here for anyone to kill the mood because she’s just tryna get loose.

New Music: JR Castro feat. YG & Sevyn Streeter – That Sh*t Go (Up-Down)

Following the release of his debut single “Get Home,” which featured Kid Ink and Quavo of Migos, Las Vegas native JR Castro drops a new track with two other industry pals. Titled “That Sh*t Go (Up-Down),” the new cut features west coast rapper YG and songstress Sevyn Streeter.

While YG kicks off the track with his freak nasty lyrics, JR comes in right after and lays down his need for that “good sh*t” on the seductively produced single. Sevyn, who combats JR’s lyrics with her own sultry verse, breaks all the rules laid out before her.

“This is a song about a battle for bedroom supremacy and it definitely looks like I lose out to Sevyn on this one,” Castro said.

JR’s debut EP You, which is executively produced by Timbaland, is being worked on now and he’s spending time in the studio with Wale, Future, Jhené Aiko, and Mike WiLL Made-It.

Sevyn Streeter Says She’d Rather Get Paid From Heartbreak, Sings “Say It” Remix

Screen Shot 2015-10-12 at 11.09.40 AM

Sevyn Streeter has exceeded all expectations as a young girl out of Haines City, Florida. Only after a few minutes of sharing a couch with the singer her genuine and light hearted ora was easily felt as she explained how she ended up with her stage name. Born as Amber Streeter, she gives thanks to her parents Tim and Karen for the name that helped her reach fame. Her mother gave birth to her at seven months, on the seventh month and the seventh day, and since it’s been impossible for her to escape the lucky number and soon just claimed it.

In this exclusive interview with the Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter, she tells me how she overcame the struggles of transitioning into a solo artist, and finding balance between fame and reality, and gives the ladies some relationship advice. This past week it was revealed that her relationship with rapper B.O.B is history. No shade, but Sevyn seemed unbothered with the idea of being single and shared how to turn heartbreak into a pay check. When asked how many “get out of jail free” cards do you give a man, she bluntly stated:

“We all have that place that if the right person pushes you, you can go there. You know your limit and the limit is different for every woman, but for me it’s like that limit right before you cause me to hop all the way out of my character. I’m not gonna let you do that!”

Most artists in a vulnerable state, whether it’s a breakup, a tragedy, or new transition will turn to their craft to release the negative energy and create a memorable body of work. Staring directly in the camera she goes on to say: “I’ll write a song about you before I let you do that and I’ll make paper off of you before I let you do that.”

During the interview, Sevyn also shared her thoughts on the separation between women in R&B and her dreams to one day get powerhouses Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Tinashe, Jazmine Sullivan, etc. all in the booth for a new age women’s anthem. It’s been entirely too long since a “Lady Marmalade” esque record has been released and the strongest women in music are responsible to make it happen.

Take a look at the full interview below and watch her sing her remix to Tory Lanez’s “Say It” as well!
