New Music: D∆WN feat. PJ Morton – Vines

D∆WN breaks out of the box with her Redemption interlude “Vines.”

The innovative songstress kicks off the PJ Morton-assisted track with a powerful statement of independence.

“I don’t mean to talk about my personal business / But I’ma have to put it out there / You’ve been putting me in boxes and I don’t really feel comfortable for you to do me like this / I feel stifled / I feel like a seed that can’t grow,” she sings.

The lyrics stem from a real life experience, according to the former Danity Kane star.

“I felt stifled coming out of the ‘Black’ era,” she told W Magazine. “I felt like I was being put in boxes, and I didn’t feel comfortable being typed.”

“Vines (Interlude)” follows “Renegades” as a single off Richard’s forthcoming album Redemption. Due Nov. 18, it’s the final album in Dawn’s trilogy that includes 2013’s Goldenheart and 2015’s Blackheart.

Video: PJ Morton – Sticking To My Guns

PJ Morton brings us that real deep south soul with the music video for, “Sticking To My Guns,” the title track from his newly-released maxi single. The five-track maxi-single is the prelude to his upcoming studio album, which will be released in early 2017. This will be Morton’s first full-length solo release since returning to New Orleans and forming his record label, Morton Records.

The music video for “Sticking To My Guns” was filmed, directed and edited in New Orleans by Allendra “Cinemadona” Freeman, who recently worked with Morton filming and directing the video for “I Need Your Love,” and served as a cinematographer on Beyoncé’s Lemonade film and single, “Formation.” Beginning with an idea to film a concept based on the Black Lives Matter Movement, Cinemadona brought her vision to life using real-world experiences of both her and Morton’s culture of growing up in New Orleans and the church, being immersed in gospel, jazz and blues.

Sticking to My Guns (maxi single) is available on iTunes and all digital retailers. Check out the video below.

PJ Morton Announces New Live Album/DVD ‘Live Show Killer,’ Releases Lead Single “I Need Your Love”

Grammy-nominated artist and Maroon 5 keyboardist PJ Morton has announced that he will be releasing a brand new live album/DVD package titled, Live Show Killer, which is set to drop on July 7, via his newly formed label Morton Records.

Recorded in front of an intimate audience at the historic Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles in early May 2015, PJ and his band The Crusade performed a special set including fan favorites, surprise covers, and hand-picked selections from his celebrated solo releases, including many songs from his 2013 album New Orleans, which hit #1 on the iTunes R&B Albums Chart, and earned PJ a Grammy nomination for his collaboration with Stevie Wonder on “Only One.”

The lead release off the collection is “I Need Your Love,” which originated on his Walk Alone album.  “It’s kind of a sad song but feels happy. I’ve always enjoyed that combination,” Morton tells Billboard. “I chose it for the live album because it’s been a crowd favorite for a while. And as a band, we get to stretch out and keep the energy up.”

“This is a direct conversation,” says Morton of the Live Show Killer double package. “I want people to hear and see the perfect energy that was in that room.”

The 18-track live-in-studio album includes features from special guests Tweet and Mali Music.

PJ has also announced summer tour dates, which will bring him to U.S. cities including New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia and his hometown of New Orleans.

New Music: PJ Morton – Claustrophobic

PJ Morton Claustrophobic

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard something new from singer/musician PJ Morton, but that has changed now with the release of the new song “Claustrophobic,” co-produced by Darhyl Camper.

While he released the song on iTunes first, PJ says it isn’t an official single, just something that he wanted to get off of his chest.

“This is for everyone who wants to be exactly who they are and not who other people want them to be… for artistic and creative freedom.”

“But I must admit I’m claustrophobic, I have a hard time trying to fit in to your small mind / And I have a habit of dreaming bigger than anything I can see right in front of me,” he sings before describing some of the unfortunate stereotypes industry executives have tried to push him into.

When he is not touring with Maroon 5, PJ is performing at spot dates and recording new music, hopefully for his next album.
