Video: PJ Morton feat. Pell – Claustrophobic

Singer/songwriter/musician and Maroon 5 keyboardist, PJ Morton, has premiered the visuals for his brand new single “Claustrophobic” featuring rapper Pell.

In the video, PJ is stuck on an elevator as more and more people crowd into the small space, giving him advice on what to do with his career, critiquing his look, and even questioning his street cred.

Speaking with Billboard about the song and video, PJ explained: “I wrote this song while feeling like I was being smothered by everyone else’s opinions. I was starting to lose myself and this was my song to fight back. It’s the anthem for all the dreamers who may not fit in.”

The video concept came to Morton a couple of years ago. “I wanted it all to be shot in an elevator where it would continue to get more and more packed. It was my take on how my brain kept getting more and more filled with others’ ideas and opinions.”

“Claustrophobic” is the first single off of PJ’s upcoming album, Gumbo, which is due out April 21. The LP features appearances by BJ The Chicago Kid, Pell, and The HamilTones.

New Music: PJ Morton – Claustrophobic

Singer/songwriter/musician and Maroon 5 keyboardist, PJ Morton, is finally back with new music, in the form of a song entitled “Clastrophobic” featuring rapper Pell.

The single, which is off of Morton’s upcoming album, Gumbo, was inspired by his frustration with people in the music industry wanting to limit his artistry.

“I’m an artist who has chosen, outside of being a part of Maroon 5, to follow a path that is not necessarily the most popular one,” Morton told Saint Heron. “Those in positions of power are usually trying to adjust you and tailor you to fit what they would like to sell to the masses. This was at a time where I was going around to different labels, kind of letting them listen to my music, and it was at that point where I realized what was most important to me. Yes – I want a lot of people to hear my music. Yes – I want to play huge venues. But I don’t want to do it at the expense of not being who I am or at the expense of not saying what I want to say. That is basically where this song came from. For me, it became the anthem for the dreamer and a message to all of the doubters.”

The New Orleans native’s new album, Gumbo, is due to be released in April. Take a listen to the jazzy “Claustrophobic” below.

New Music: D∆WN feat. PJ Morton – Vines

D∆WN breaks out of the box with her Redemption interlude “Vines.”

The innovative songstress kicks off the PJ Morton-assisted track with a powerful statement of independence.

“I don’t mean to talk about my personal business / But I’ma have to put it out there / You’ve been putting me in boxes and I don’t really feel comfortable for you to do me like this / I feel stifled / I feel like a seed that can’t grow,” she sings.

The lyrics stem from a real life experience, according to the former Danity Kane star.

“I felt stifled coming out of the ‘Black’ era,” she told W Magazine. “I felt like I was being put in boxes, and I didn’t feel comfortable being typed.”

“Vines (Interlude)” follows “Renegades” as a single off Richard’s forthcoming album Redemption. Due Nov. 18, it’s the final album in Dawn’s trilogy that includes 2013’s Goldenheart and 2015’s Blackheart.

Video: PJ Morton – Sticking To My Guns

PJ Morton brings us that real deep south soul with the music video for, “Sticking To My Guns,” the title track from his newly-released maxi single. The five-track maxi-single is the prelude to his upcoming studio album, which will be released in early 2017. This will be Morton’s first full-length solo release since returning to New Orleans and forming his record label, Morton Records.
