“I really just made the decision that I needed to become human again,” she said of her hiatus. “But I needed some experience, I needed some inspiration, and I needed to take care of my health and make sure that I was great—sound body, mind—and get some new stories to make a new album.”

Her third album Awake features production from Dre of Dre & Vidal, Jerry Wonda, and Jack Splash. “We just have great chemistry and it’s right,” she said of her collaborators. “The freedom to experiment and decide… I’m really pleased with the selection that I have.”

Melanie Fiona Announces New Album ‘Awake,’ Releases New Single “Bite The Bullet”

Melanie Fiona Bite The Bullet

If you caught our post early Monday on Melanie Fiona‘s private show in Los Angeles, than you should already be aware that she is prepping for the release of her anticipated third studio album.  Kicking off a short mini tour this past Friday, the soulful songstress debuted some of her new music during the show, and now she has officially announced the album, entitled Awake, is due out this fall via Title 9 Productions/Primary Wave BMG.

“I am so excited to be partnering with Primary Wave for the release of my third album. The journey from my last project to this moment has been graced with many moments of happiness, vulnerability, strength, and ultimately, growth,” explains Fiona. “I am looking forward to sharing my personal and musical evolution with the world.”

The first taste of the album is the funky single “Bite The Bullet,” a Reggae influenced track where Melanie admits to loving the wrong man and accepting her mistakes.

“I’ll bite the bullet, I’ll do it in the name of love / I guess I’ll bite the bullet, or stop playing with loaded guns,” she sings with her infectious tone.

The remaining dates on her Verizon-sponsored promo tour will be making stops in New York, Atlanta and Washington, DC before wrapping in New Orleans at the Essence Festival.

ThisisRnB Nights: Melanie Fiona Performs Private Show in Los Angeles

The extremely talented, and often underrated, Melanie Fiona partnered with Verizon for a special private show on Friday night at The Montalban Theater in Los Angeles.

The soulful songstress has been away from the spotlight for quite a while (at least in today’s standards), so it was great to see Mel back on stage, and exciting to hear some of the new music she has been working on for her anticipated third album.

Following an unfortunate technical difficulty with the theaters stage curtain, the Canadian singer-songwriter hit the stage with her band and put on a great show. Treating the audience to many fan favorites such as “4 AM,” “Give It to Me Right,” “Wrong Side of a Love Song” and “Fool For You,” Melanie also debuted the brand new song “Bite The Bullet.”

She also embraced the city by paying homage to Kendrick Lamar with a cover of “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe.”

New Music: Melanie Fiona – Fight Through It

Melanie fiona fight through

Melanie Fiona has been away from our eyes and ears for entirely too long. While she didn’t release much last year, the R&B singer/songwriter has lent her talents to the new promotional mixtape for the upcoming season of HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones.

Delivering the rhythmic “Fight Throught It,” Fiona sings about giving her all through adversity for her loved one, over a subtle ska beat.

“My song is for Cersei [Lannister], the sacrifice,” says Mel. “You bleed for your family, you bleed for your love, you bleed for your loyalty.”

In addition to Fiona; Estelle, Method Man, Snoop Dogg, and more appear on the 15-track ‘Catch the Throne‘ mixtape, which is available now on iTunes.
