Brandy, Alicia Keys, Ledisi & More Perform at BET Honors

BET celebrated icons in the fields of music, literature, entertainment, media, and education at BET Honors, which aired on Monday night.

Taped last month in Washington, D.C., the 6th annual event hosted by Gabrielle Union, honored Oscar winner Halle Berry, the legendary Chaka Khan, music executive and entrepreneur Clarence Avant, spiritual educator T.D. Jakes, and Olympic gold medalist Lisa Leslie, with musical tributes from Brandy, Alicia Keys, Ledisi and more.

In grand fashion Brandy delivered the first televised performance of her next single “Without You” with dancer Anthony Burrell. Alicia Keys honored Halle Berry with “Brand New Me,” Erykah Badu and Ledisi paid homage to Chaka Khan. Mint Condition serenaded Clarence Avant with their hits “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)” and “Slo Woman.” KEM honored T.D. Jakes with Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Can’t Hide Love.” And, S.O.S. Band got everyone dancing with their closing finale performance.

The 2013 BET Honors is around the corner and the list of performers hitting the stage will be Erykah Badu, Brandy, Ledisi, Mint Condition, Alicia Keys and more! This year BET Honors will celebrate the accomplishments of T.D. Jakes (Award for Education), Clarence Avant (Entrepreneur Award), Halle Berry (Award for Service), Chaka Khan (Award for Musical Arts) and Lisa Leslie (Awards for Athletics). The show will be pre-taped on January 12th at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C.

Be sure to tune in to the show airing on February 11th.

Melanie Fiona, Jordin Sparks & Ledisi Tribute Whitney Houston at ‘Vh1 Divas’

Whitney Houston’s legacy lived on once again Sunday night on ‘Vh1 Divas.’ Her friend and student, Brandy, opened with the introduction, as Whitney’s Sparkle co-star Jordin Sparks followed, kicking off the tribute with “I’m Every Woman.” Building the momentum Melanie Fiona sang down the aisles with “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” followed by “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay.”

Soulful songstress Ledisi showed Whitney’s influence on her with a powerful rendition of “How Will I Know,” as all three ladies joined together for the grand finale. Watch their performance below…

Love is in the air, as up and coming singer/musician PJ Morton teams up with fellow New Orleans native Ledisi. The soulful singers unite on a feel-good cover of “Baby I Love You” by Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack. Yup, this is just what I needed this morning. Take a listen below… PJ is currently working on his debut album on YMCMB, the video for his single “Lover” featuring Lil Wayne is coming very soon.

Mary J. Blige, Tank & Ledisi Rock ESSENCE Festival (Day 2)

As if day 1 of the 2012 ESSENCE Music Festival wasn’t just about as good as it gets, Saturday night’s show highlighted and delivered what we all love and yearn for from our R&B artists and vocal powerhouses. Day 2 at the Superdome was a brilliant mix of talent between music and comedy, R&B heartthrob Tank open the show, the singer-songwriter even brought out Tyrese who sent the ladies into a further frenzy. Mary Mary brought everyone to their feet, singing along to the duo’s classic worship anthems, Ledisi tore it down as always and Mary J. Blige nearly lit the arena on fire.
