Video: Keyshia Cole feat. Remy Ma & French Montana – You

You should know this by now, but don’t mess with Keyshia Cole!

The R&B vixen premieres the Benny Boom-directed music video for her comeback single “You” featuring Remy Ma and French Montana.  The visuals for the breakup anthem open with Keyshia talking to detectives (one played by producer Harmony Samuels), about the disappearance of her boyfriend, but it’s all in her plan, as KC has him tied up in her closet.

After smearing cake on his face and writing liar on his forehead with lipstick, she calls in Remy, who spits her slick verse while picking out tools to torture him with. Bound and tied to an office chair, Keyshia pushes him off the second story of her house into the pool. (Yikes!).  French shows up later to take the now ex-boyfriend, and the woman he cheated with, away in the trunk of his car, leaving them on a dark mountain road at night.

Keyshia is currently prepping for the release of her new album 1111 Reset, which is her first on Epic Records.

Watch: Keyshia Cole Performs 2 New Singles on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”

Keyshia Cole had some surprises for fans during her appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Monday night (Jan. 30). While performing her brand new single “You” for the first time on television, the R&B songstress was joined by rap stars Remy Ma and French Montana for their guest verses.

Dressed in all white and backed by dancers, Cole performed a clean version of the new breakup anthem, switching some of the hook’s words. “You picked the wrong one, baby / You just played me for the last time / I’m done dealing with you,” she sang.

Keyshia also took the opportunity to premiere a somber and soulful new song called “Incapable,” which like “You” is expected to appear on her forthcoming album, 1111 Reset, due out this year on Epic Records.

Sitting down in front of her band, backup singers, and a colorful backdrop, Keyshia belted out the new cut.  “Every time it feels like this could be the last time / What’s the good in goodbye / If I give this one more try / It’s hard because they say that true love never dies,” she sang.

New Music: Keyshia Cole feat. Remy Ma & French Montana – You

Keyshia Cole is back.!  The R&B songstress has finally returned with the first single off her upcoming Epic Records album. Teaming up with rappers Remy Ma and French Montana for the mid-tempo “You,” which addresses bitter breakups with anthemic empowerment and no-holds-barred bashing.

“Whole squad said you was a ho, though / Let Breezy know these ni**as ain’t loyal / Blowing up my phone, turn my phone off / Can’t take no bitch ni**a phone calls,” sings Keyshia.

Riding with Keyshia is her longtime pal Remy, who provides her own take on the concept. “How you gettin’ hoes, take ’em home, and you wife ’em?” she asks. “It’s really no comparison ’cause I ain’t nothin’ like them / Bestie said, ‘F*ck him,’ I’m like, Don’t get me hyped ’cause at one point, it would’ve been gunpoint, on-sight, bum.”

French Montana follows the ladies with a verse of his own, also admonishing an ex. “A real one hold you down like a real army,” he raps. “But I picked the wrong one like Steve Harvey.” Later, he even adds a political reference. “Your game week like seven nights / Coming with them same lines like Trump wife.”

“You” arrives ahead of Keyshia’s upcoming Epic Records debut 1111 Reset. “I wanted to put [1111] on the album because it’s been everywhere,” she said. “For the past year, I’ve been seeing 1111 constantly and to my understanding, you’re aligned spiritually with your destiny and everything that is meant to be in your life is happening at the right time. The timing is right. Everything is right. Reset is definitely cohesive with that.”

1111 Reset, the follow-up to 2014’s Point of No Return, is due later this year. Stream “You” below now.

Keyshia Cole is getting ready to make that move back to music.

The R&B songstress has been teasing new songs from her forthcoming album Reset on Snapchat, including the Amadeus-produced single “Best Friend,” which was announced back in March.

“I want to be the one when you’re down I pick you up,” sings Keyshia in one clip. “I will be your best friend / Be there late at night / When you go to sleep / Be there when you open your eyes.”

It sounds like her Epic labelmate DJ Khaled will also appear on the Reset intro with a few motivational words and, no doubt, some major keys.

“They tried to kick me when I was down,” he says in one preview. “Notice how I said try. Now they want to kick it with me when I’m on. They played themselves.”

“Album Complete , New Deal /Label (Official) Announcement Coming Very Soon,” wrote Keyshia.

At the end of August, Keyshia teased a possible collaboration with Frank Ocean, of all people, posting a photo with the elusive singer, she wrote: “I So love him!! That #StudioFlowWas #SoAwesomeToday #MYFAV Just a reminder This Album I’m working on will be done in 2Months #Period 🏆 #Frank.”

Reset is Keyshia’s first album since 2014’s Point of No Return and her first since signing to Epic Records. She was previously signed to Interscope.

25 R&B Dancehall & Reggae Fusion Songs To Turn You On

25-R&B-Dancehall-Songs

Over the last few years, the influence of dancehall music in other genres has been extremely prevalent. Though genres have been pulling from other sounds not like their own for further back than we can remember, reggae, dancehall, soca, and its accompanying sounds from the Caribbean, have been some of the most replicated.

Originating in the late ’70s, dancehall music grew to new lengths in the early ’90s with sounds provided by Shabba Ranks, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Mad Cobra, and more. Uncovering massive US crossover success, the sound only provided a demand for more music like it. Thus, the late ’90s and early ’00s saw an even larger breakthrough in the US market than before, solidifying dancehall as a top contender in mainstream crossover music. While Caribbean-based artists were taking advantage of crossing over into our market, Pop, Rap, and R&B artists were also taking advantage of the addictive sound penetrating our ears. Artists like No Doubt,  Beyoncé, Lil Wayne, Twista, Busta Rhymes, Sean Kingston, and more pulled the sounds of dancehall and fused it with their own, subsequently making them fall in the reggae fusion genre.

With the recent success of Drake’s “Controlla” and the Tory Lanez new single “LUV,” the love and admiration of the dancehall and reggae fusion sound continues to make its impact on current day music. While many will pose the question on whether or not dancehall is becoming mainstream again thanks to native artists like Popcaan, Konshens, Vybz Kartel, and Kranium, and non-natives such as the formerly mentioned, I give the firm answer that dancehall has never left.

With a sound that delivers longevity, appreciation, and respect, dancehall and reggae fusion songs will always be present due to their ability to stay relevant long after their debut into what we consider as “mainstream.”

Whether you’ve been a fan of the sound or are just joining in on the wave due to a few tracks that have recently surfaced, this list of “25 R&B Dancehall & Reggae Fusion Songs To Turn You On” will help you remember why dancehall and reggae fusion are two of the most influential sounds around.
