Watch: Rihanna Joins Kendrick Lamar in “LOYALTY” Video

Kendrick Lamar continues to deliver outstanding visuals off his acclaimed new album, DAMN. Surprising fans on Friday (July 28), the rap superstar premiered the anticipated video for “LOYALTY” featuring Rihanna.

The duo join forces in a homage to a Bonnie and Clyde type of couple in the symbolic Dave Meyers and the little homies-directed clip.

After a curious opening scene where Kendrick is seen blindfolded and surrounded by scantily clad women in a red room, the two lovers appear to be running a scam. Approaching a man in a fancy BMW i8, RiRi manages to get him outside and then Kung Fu Kenny proves that his fight training has paid off. K-Dot and RiRi steal the whip and eventually wreck it in a surprising accident.

There are stunning views of Los Angeles throughout the cinematic clip, including one of Lamar and Rihanna on a rooftop. “Trust me,” Kendrick tells his co-star, before holding on to her while she daringly hangs off the side of a building. Later, the duo snuggles up on the edge of the building while overlooking the night’s stars.

With a new album in the works, the R&B crooner takes a moment to flex his rap skills, spitting some confident and braggadocious bars over the potent Mike Will Made It beat. Borrowing K-Dot’s flow, Ne-Yo opens the remix reflecting on his career and Grammy wins.

“I remember wishing I could sit at the Grammys with Jay and Bey, and Rihanna and Chris / Be part of the clique / Second guess myself and all my shit like, ‘Do I really fit?’ / Three Grammys later, I guess I must be pretty good at this,” he rhymes.

Later Ne-Yo continues to express the reasons to remain humble, while also addressing an unidentified adversary.

“Who is this ni**a thinking that he fronting on Ne-Yo? / Get the fuck over yourself, check your ego / I didn’t change, I evolved, get it right / I wrote a song and it changed your whole life,” he raps. “I am Grey Poupon, I’m Evian, I’m highbrow / Been inspiring these dudes for a while now / Never said it ’cause I never thought I had to / But since they talkin’ shit I’m glad to.”

The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar Perform “Sidewalks” Live

While performing a special VEVO show in Los Angeles on Saturday night (Dec. 17), The Weeknd surprised the audience by bringing out Kendrick Lamar to join him for “Sidewalks,” off his new hit album Starboy.

Abel and K-Dot dapped up one another before the TDE spitter delivered his show-stopping, rapid-fire verse.

Backed by a live band, things didn’t end there, as Kendrick stayed through the song’s final chorus, supporting The Weeknd on the streetwise anthem, which features vocals from Sam Smith.

Before “Sidewalks” dropped, The Weeknd said the song helped him see Kendrick’s “genius” ways. “He’s a genius,” he told Beats 1. “He probably came in the afternoon and left late at night. He did it there on the spot. He played the record over and over. I played him songs, the ‘Starboy’ theme, of course, which he incorporated into his verse. He would just walk around, we had food, and he’s writing his verse in his head. He’d go to his phone, look at it a few, put it back in, start walking around. He then at one point went into the studio booth, closed the door, and I could hear him yelling his verse.”

Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar Open BET Awards with “Freedom”

Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar BET Awards

BET had the biggest surprise up their sleeve for the opening of the 2016 BET Awards on Sunday night.

Kicking off the show with none-other than Beyoncé, they set a powerful message for the evening, with an updated version of her Kendrick Lamar-assisted song “Freedom,” off Lemonade.

As her backup dancers strutted down the aisles to the sound of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, Queen Bey stood perched on the stage in an ankle-deep pool of water while fire erupted behind her. “I’ma wade, I’ma wave through the waters,” she sang, kicking up waves as she hit choreography with her crew.
