New Music: Calvin Harris feat. Kehlani & Lil Yachty – Faking It

Fans of Baylani have something new to be excited about today.

Platinum DJ/producer Calvin Harris has released his anticipated new album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. The 10-track LP is loaded with exciting collaborations, including the track “Faking It” featuring Kehlani and Lil’ Yachty.

The mid-tempo track may be the perfect example of the album’s title, with it’s funky bassline and “My Boo” style bounce. Lani rides the track with perfection as she sings out to an ex-lover who she can’t get out of her mind, and ponders why he keeps checking in with her.

“Nowadays I’m just a bitch to everybody else / I don’t need no shoulders I’m good crying by myself,” she sings. “Moving on is a chore ’cause you know I still adore ya / An unrequited love is just a lover’s hell.”

Lil’ Boat comes in on the third verse adding that while he’s been making millions on the road, the success is fleeting without the girl he truly loves. “I need counseling from my moms, she’s a heartbreak teacher,” he raps.

Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 1 features guest appearances by Frank Ocean, Migos, Ariana Grande, Pharrell Williams, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Snoop Dogg, Big Sean, Future, John Legend and more.

Watch: Noisey Presents: ‘Under the Influence – 90s R&B Still Reigns Supreme in 2017’

Noisey Under the Influence 90s R&B

Black history is American history, especially when it comes to music. African-American musical traditions set in motion a culture that’s given us Jazz, the Blues, Rock n Roll, Funk, Disco, Soul, and Hip Hop.

Despite this evolution, for much of the 20th Century “Rhythm & Blues” was a blanket term applied to any music marketed to black audiences, changing meaning with each era. As Hip Hop entered the picture artists like Teddy Riley, Jodeci, and members of New Edition incorporated the new sound and style into a classic R&B template. Since then, the line between the two would continue to blur, influencing pop music forever.

Noisey’s “Under The Influence” shows how New Jack Swing married Hip Hop and classic R&B to give birth to something entirely new for the 90s, paving the way for today’s artists like Kehlani, Ty Dolla $ign, Dreezy, and Phantogram, while helping to make millions of babies along the way.

Watch the progression of New Jack Swing from the late ’80s to 2017 below.

Rising Canadian R&B artist, Maurice Moore continues to get more and more ‘Awesome.’

New Music: Kehlani Joins Aminé on “Heebiejeebies”

Portland rapper Aminé comes through with a smooth new joint featuring his boo, Kehlani. On the Jahaan Sweet-produced track, titled “Heebiejeebies,” the MC and singer trade lines about being young and fly.

“I got the baddest bitch / Shorty keeps hollering at me / Told her I’m a young OG / From the West and I’m reppin’ up the 503,” raps Aminé before Kehlani follows him singing: “I ain’t no average bitch / Baby, come swing my way / I’ma put you on this game / Get it all gas, no breaks.”

During a recent interview with Genius, Amine said the track came together after a spontaneous meet-up with Kehlani during a studio session.

“Me and Kehlani were just talking because she was a fan and I was a fan of her, and she invited me to the studio for the first time,” he said. “She had a studio session and I was in L.A. I walked in because I thought we were just meeting, you know just to have lunch or something. They were just like, ‘Do you wanna make a song?’ They played me that beat, and I started writing to it, and then [Kehlani] was in the room so she just jumped on it, and then it kinda just happened really naturally.”

Rihanna, Kehlani, Sevyn, Tinashe & More Storm Coachella 2017

As if the desert wasn’t hot enough on the first weekend of Coachella 2017, some of R&B’s sexiest starlets stormed the annual spring festival to enjoy the good vibes.

While only a few of our favorites were actually on the bill, like Kehlani and NAO, others–like Rihanna–made surprise appearances, and some were there to attend the brand events, like Solange and Tinashe.

During her Sunday night set, Kehlani rocked a lose fitting white outfit that had ‘Find Our Girls’ written on her top, and ‘Solidarity’ down the leg of her pants.

Rihanna had social media in a craze over her shimmering full body suit with low cut Gucci tank top and jean shorts on Day 2, and she was seen turning up in the crowd to Kendrick Lamar’s set on Day 3.

The Weeknd, who came out to perform with XO producer-turned-artist NAV, spent some quality time with girlfriend Selena Gomez backstage. Singers like Sevyn Streeter, SZA, Christina Milian, Justine Skye and more all were in attendance as well to take in the performances and mingle during the events.

Buzzing teen singer-songwriter Khalid caught up with Solange and Kehlani, who also spent some time with Sevyn and SZA on Day 2. Jhené Aiko and her sister Mila J were also hanging around. Jhené posted a photo on Instagram that said her body was in Coachella but her heart is at the Lightning in a Bottle Festival, which is coming up on Memorial Day Weekend.

New Music: Khalid feat. Kehlani & Lil Wayne – Location (Remix)

After teasing fans with a short preview earlier in the week, buzzing young artist Khalid debuts the anticipated remix to his breakout hit “Location.”

Teaming up with Lil Wayne and Kehlani, the new version takes the location of lovin’ to new heights.

Over the slinky production, Tunechi kicks off the remix with some provocative lines: “I’ll turn your dry spot into an oasis / I’ll kiss the right spots, I know all the places,” raps Weezy.

After Khalid’s original verse, Kehlani joins in with some revelations about a relationship in the public eye. “They can choose to watch, but I’d rather they just listen / Could fill up an album with everything that they’re missin’ / They so superficial, don’t understand how we’re chillin’ / We don’t need a lot, we got us, and that’s why we’re winnin’,” she sings.

Earlier this week, Khalid’s debut album American Teen landed in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, he performed on “The Tonight Show,” and just won MTV’s Woodie to Watch award.
