Kelly Rowland, Miguel, Jill Scott Attend Essence’s ‘Black Woman In Hollywood’
ESSENCE held their 6th Annual ‘Black Woman In Hollywood’ event on Thursday at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The night was filled with laughter, some tears, but mostly appreciation, which included honorees Oprah Winfrey, Alfre Woodard, Gabrielle Union, Mara Brock-Akil, Naomie Harris and Quvenzhané Wallis.
Some of R&B’s hottest were in attendance including Kelly Rowland, Jill Scott, Jennifer Hudson and Miguel came by to deliver a special performance.
“Miguel got us vibin in here! #EssencwWomenInHollywood luncheon,” shared Kelly.

Essence Magazine Honors Solange Knowles at ‘Black Women In Music’ Event
Grammy week is in full swing, and the stars were out Wednesday night. Essence Magazine held their 4th annual ‘Black Women In Music’ event at Greystone Manor Supperclub in West Hollywood. The party honored Solange Knowles and rising British songbird Lianne La Havas as “Breakthrough Artist.”
Many of R&B’s leading ladies and some newcomers were in attendance including Tamia, Jill Scott, Estelle, Kelis, Dawn Richard, Leah LaBelle, and Bridget Kelly. Solange performed some new material off her acclaimed EP ‘True,’ and was joined onstage by her collaborator Devonté “Dev” Hynes and Earth Wind & Fire’s Verdine White.

Brandy, Maxwell, Keyshia Cole & Jill Scott Announced as Performers at the Essence Music Festival 2013

Last year was a major success, and it appears 2013 will be just as big for the ESSENCE Music Awards. Following the major comeback from D’Angelo at last years show, this July will bring Maxwell back to the stage! Along with the soulful crooner, songstress’ Brandy, Jill Scott and Keyshia Cole are among the early artists announced to be on stage in New Orleans this coming July.

This Labor Day weekend has been full of great live music thanks to the “Made in America” festival in Philadelphia. The 2-day outdoor concert created by Jay-Z and Budweiser brought numerous artists of various genres to the 3 stages. Representing for R&B/Soul was Philly’s own songbird Jill Scott, along with D’Angelo who took a quick break off the ‘Liberation’ Tour with Mary J. Blige, and the ever energetic Janelle Monae.
