Mali Music Releases “Gonna Be Alright” Video + “Loved By You” feat. Jazmine Sullivan

Ahead of the release of his new album, The Transition of Mali, due June 2, Mali Music shows his lighthearted and upbeat side with the release of his video for “Gonna Be Alright.”

In the video, Mali evokes nostalgia, parodying iconic television shows like Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Married With Children, and Martin. The visual flips the inspirational tone of the song into a depiction of pure joy mixed with a dash of humor.

Mali comments on the video saying, “The video is fun! It reminds me of simpler and better times. Those days when the shows on TV helped us escape and believe. I want it to be something that makes the viewers smile.”

In addition to the “Gonna Be Alright” video, Mali has shared one of the most-anticipated tracks off his new album, a collaboration with Jazmine Sullivan titled, “Loved By You.”

Trading verses on the romantic ballad, Mali sings: “Now when I say ‘take your heart’ I’m not talking about robbery / I’m talking lots of talks and texts, the cost to be, the one we ought to see / Though talks and texts can get the point from A to B.”

Jazmine joins him over the soulful track with background adlibs and singing: “Yes, it’s so good to be loved by you.”

New Video: Niia feat. Jazmine Sullivan – Sideline

Emerging jazz/soul singer Niia released her debut album I today (May 5), and to accompany the project she has unveiled a video for the album’s surprise duet, “Sideline” featuring Jazmine Sullivan.

In the black-and-white visuals, directed by Sasha Samsonova, the two woman share a similar problem. At first, we assume Sullivan is the “other woman,” but as things unfold it’s unclear who is really the “other.”

Niia explained to The FADER, that the song is about “two very different women dealing with the same problem.” She said Jazmine was the only choice for this duet because she’s just so great. “If I was ever going to lose to another woman, I’d want it to be a strong, incredibly talented, beautiful woman,” Niia said. “Jazmine Sullivan is that woman.”

Sullivan complimented Niia’s “hauntingly beautiful tone,” and added that once she heard the lyrics, she was sold on the song. “Anywhere there’s authenticity and drama I’m all in,” Sullivan said.

Listen: Jazmine Sullivan Connects with Goldlink & Kaytranada for “Meditation”

GoldLink takes fans on an artistic trip inside of a nightclub in the video for his Jazmine Sullivan and KAYTRANADA-assisted single “Meditation.”

The animated visual shares a unique depiction of the club scene as Jazmine’s soothing vocals shine throughout the KAYTRANADA-produced cut. “I want to be more than homies / I just want to be your baby, your one and only,” she sings.

GL raps about a complicated relationship with an ex. “I still call ya / Whichever way you want it, baby girl, it’s on ya / I got the money, you got the problems, so I can solve it / But I still need ya / I still see ya,” he raps.

Speaking of the track, GoldLink reveals the inspiration is rooted in his hometown. “‘Meditation’ is a quick glimpse into DC Go-Go and street culture,” he said. “It’s kind of like a West Side Story, in a way — as far as it’s a guy who sees a girl. This guy is from one neighborhood and the girl is from another rivaling neighborhood. They see each other across the room. He talks to her, they reminisce, they laugh, and then a confrontation happens.”

While the song is smooth and romantic, things end in chaos, as gunfire erupts, and the visual fades to black. Check it out below.

Listen: ThisisRnB Presents: Acoustic Sessions Vol. 2 (Guitar Sessions)

Guitar-Sessions

Throughout the years that we’ve been running ThisisRnB, our original acoustic sessions series has been one of the most rewarding and enriching things that we’ve done. From the earliest developments of it and curating our process over the years, we couldn’t be more honored and proud of the content that has been created through these sessions.

While the videos live on our YouTube channel, we’ve always felt like it would be nice to do something with the audio recordings as well.

So, after revisiting the sessions, we’ve gathered and created playlists broken down into two simple styles–piano sessions and guitar sessions. We are currently releasing them online for free streaming as our gift to you!

Thank you all for watching and supporting us over the years. Thank you to all the artists who allowed us to help capture these amazing performances, along with all the publicists, managers, and record label associates who helped facilitate them. Thank you to all the engineers and studios as well, we couldn’t have done this without you.

ThisisRnB Nights: “GRAMMY Park” Live with Ne-Yo & Jazmine Sullivan at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn

Ne-Yo-GP-7

On Thursday night (May 5) The GRAMMYs launched their first ever “GRAMMY Park” live event at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York. The opening night concert at the famed, recently re-opened theater featured R&B stars Ne-Yo and Jazmine Sullivan.

The renovated grand-old building is a spectacular venue for any show, but when R&B vocals bounce off the golden walls it’s something innately special. The drinks and free candy were flowing, as thousands of guests found the way to their seats, and the incomparable @JSullivanMusic took the stage. Jaz’s anointed voice is exceptional on it’s own, but when backed by her full band, additional backup singers, and high definition screens to enhance the visual performance, there are few that can compete with the songstresses ability to captivate an audience. Since her return in 2015 with the critically acclaimed album Reality Show, the Philly girl has been consistently touring with her new material, and she put plenty on display this night. Performing cuts off the album like “Mascara,” “Forever Don’t Last,” “Let It Burn,” and “Masterpiece” the singer left all her emotions on the stage. However, one of the most touching and memorable moments was her tribute to Prince as she let her fluttering falsetto shine with a cover of the late legend’s song “Adore.” To close her exceptional performance Jazmine turned up the tempo as everyone rocked and bounced to her breakout single “Need U Bad.”

The evening’s headliner was none other than R&B hitmaker Ne-Yo, and when the first horns of his recent hit “She Knows” hit the speakers everyone knew it was time for a party. The singer/songwriter’s catalog is one of the deepest in the game these days, and he can literally keep a crowd on their feet for a full hour, however Ne-Yo made sure to take us through various emotions as he ran through hits like “Miss Independent,” “All Because Of You,” “So Sick,” “Champagne Life” and more, plus showed BK some love with his classic Fabolous-collaboration “Make Me Better.”

He made sure to bring us all the way back to where he got his big break, penning Mario’s massive hit “Let Me Love You,” and brought us back up to date with favorites off his latest album, Non-Fiction, like “Congratulations,” “Story Time” and the sexy slow jam “Religious.”

Similar to Jazmine, Ne-Yo had to pay his respects to one of his greatest inspirations and an artist whom he respected greatly–Prince. As the lights dimmed all the way down, a clip of Prince’s interview with Oprah played on the large screen, and the crowd let out a gasp of anticipation for the forthcoming special moment. Ne-Yo was clearly nervous to even attempt to cover The Purple One, as he told the crowd, “Man, I just pray that I can do this song justice. I love you, Prince. We miss you.” He clearly did his best covering one of Prince’s less mainstream songs, “The Beautiful Ones,” off Purple Rain.

The “Sexy Love” singer was certainly in top form with a mission to make one of his musical fathers proud, like he was right there in the audience with the rest of us. The party continued as Ne-Yo led us into the night with his mega dance hits like “Give Me Everything,” and he absolutely gave Brooklyn everything.
