Fresh on the heels of Jarell Perry‘s critically acclaimed debut album Simple Things, the LA-based singer-songwriter just can’t stop releasing new music. Available for streaming only, “Smoke + Mirrors” is an unreleased track from the “Simple Things” sessions, which was too strong to just leave in the vaults.

Love isn’t the only thing to sing about, and Jarell Perry proves this on his debut solo full-length, Simple Things, produced entirely by Hassan. The LA-based singer/songwriter, who has collaborated with everyone from Fat Joe and Usher to Diplo and Rusko, can certainly belt out the stomach-punch emotional resonance of love gone wrong, but he also spins yarn around a modern existence that includes mundane day jobs and the highs (and lows) of a good glass of whiskey.
While grounded in alternative R&B, Simple Things tours through Perry’s many influences, including indie-acoustic, dubstep and chill-wave.

Jarell Perry, artist and songwriter, known for his credits on Fat Joe and Chris Brown’s “Another Round,” releases a heartfelt cover of Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake,” in response to the tragic Newtown shootings.
“Seeing tragic events like what happened in Newtown on 12/14, there are countless emotions, reactions, and questions we ask of ourselves and of our nation. These acts of violence are called ‘senseless’ because there will never be enough answers. And yet they continue to occur and we are rocked. Shaken awake. My heart breaks for every family affected by this tragedy. And as much as I’d like to turn off the 24-hour news and forget that something like this is possible, I share a collective responsibility to respond. Respond to a broken mental health system. Respond to a culture of gun violence. Respond with action and with art.”

“If It Ain’t Too Late” is the new single from Jarell Perry’s upcoming EP set for release in late July. Written and produced by Perry with the help of multi-instrumentalist Itai Shapira, this unplugged mid-tempo is a dramatic departure from his latest urban and electro-dub singles.
“If It Ain’t Too Late” is an ode to lovers who’ve failed to realize what they’ve had until it’s gone, and a light-hearted cry for redemption that floats smoothly over a minimal single-guitar arrangement.
