Listen: Jagged Edge Release Surprise New Album ‘Layover’

In today’s digital music environment, artists can choose to be as transparent as they want when it comes to releasing new projects. They can go the common route of the past by releasing multiple singles to build up an album’s release, or they can just drop like an unexpected storm with no prior warning.

The later is becoming nearly as common among artists of every caliber of popularity, and can truly excite fans of well established, acclaimed artists.  And, as you can tell by the title of this post, that is the case for the surprise return of Grammy-nominated R&B group, Jagged Edge.

The famed quartet had been quietly teasing a new album, entitled Layover, on their official IG page for about a month, but unexpected to most they dropped the project digitally to follow their episode of TVOne’s ‘Unsung,’ which aired this past Sunday (July 9).

The album is the group’s ninth studio effort to date, and it follows 2014’s J.E. Heartbreak II, which fans know was the sequel to their multi-platinum selling 2000 album, J.E. Heartbreak.

The new album contains 16 tracks of previously unheard songs–including a 6 minute long intro. JE has not announced if there will be an official single yet, but they teased a visual for the closing song “Peanut Budder.”

The Layover is available on iTunes, Apple Music and all digital retailers now. Stream Jagged Edge’s new album via Spotify below!

PressPlay: 25 R&B Videos To Kick Off Summer

R&B Videos Summer

Summer is here and in case you were wondering, I’m just as excited as a kid on Christmas morning. Though each season holds its own weight in my book, there’s just something about summer that can make anyone feel their best and want to shine every chance they can. While everyone has their different reasons for feeling so good when summer creeps around, we here at ThisIsRnB will always give some of the credit to our playlist of summer R&B songs for that overwhelming emotion that the season brings out of us.

Although today’s R&B artists can still deliver a solid feel good sound for summer (i.e. DJ Khaled’s Rihanna and Bryson Tiller-assisted “Wild Thoughts“), there’s no denying that the majority of the top summer vibes came from the ’90s and early 2000s. Likewise, those same artists were all about making videos to match that same vibe and as a result, turned each summer into the biggest party that we would experience all year-long. So as an ode to those tracks and inspiration to make the next few months the best of your year, we decided to set you up with a dope list of R&B videos that are sure to set your summer off proper.

Excited about letting the top back, pulling out the shawt shawts, and getting tipsy on the rooftop? Jump into these 25 nostalgic summer videos to hype you up for your first day out (no Gucci) this season.

Tyrese, Keith Sweat, Silk, Jagged Edge & More Rock Out at V103 Winterfest Concert

Screen shot 2015-12-21 at 3.30.14 PM

Atlanta’s V103 did it again with an all-star line up for their 40th anniversary Winterfest Concert. The sold-out R&B show took place this past Saturday at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Whoever thinks R&B doesn’t sell or people don’t still love classic R&B think again!

The concert featured Keith Sweat, Tyrese, BBD, Silk, 112, and Jagged Edge. Fans were excited to see Atlanta’s own 112, Silk, and Jagged Edge rock the same stage once again as well. Jagged Edge, Silk, and 112 brought down the house performing their hits like “Meeting In My Bedroom, “Gotta Be”, and “Only You”.

Jagged Edge surprised the audience when they brought out Nelly to perform some collabos and hits of his own. The rap star not only performed his verse on JE’s “Where The Party At,” but also gave fans a nice treat when he performed past hits “Hot in Herre” and “E.I.”  Tyrese wanted to make his set more intimate as he pleaded with security to let some of his fans come closer to him before captivating those in attendance with his catalog of hits from “Sweet Lady” to “Shame.” He even covered Jodeci’s “Freek’n U.”  Keith Sweat couldn’t just sing some of his soulful ballads; the R&B legend decided to pull out all of the stops and give fans a full out experience at “The Sweat Hotel.” Sweat even brought out fellow R&B legend and father of New Jack Swing Teddy Riley to perform “Just Got Paid.”

Silk was also featured during Keith’s Sweat Hotel set. The quintet serenaded fans with their lush harmonies as they opened singing their hit “Loose Control” as the groups front man Lil’ G played on a white baby grand piano. Sweat wasn’t done with the surprises! He also brought out R&B legend and veteran Johnny Gill to perform “My Body.” “9-1-1-0-0-2-4” (RIP Gerald Levert). Bell Biv DeVoe turned the show up with their classic hit “Poison” before slowing it down with “When Will I See You Smile Again?”

There’s nothing like timeless and classic R&B, and V103 delivered just that! Check out more photos below!
