New Music: Goapele feat. BJ The Chicago Kid – Stay

Goapele isn’t playing any games, well maybe some bedroom ones (wink), with her new weekly releases. Following, “Power” and “Secret,” the sultry songstress delivers a very sexy duet ballad.

The Oakland songstress calls on Chicago crooner, BJ The Chicago Kid to join her and spend the night on “Stay.”

Over production by Cornelio Austin, Goapele proposes a longer stay with her lover, “Won’t you just stay a little longer / Love a little stronger / Right here is where you belong, with me,” she sings.

Meanwhile, BJ admits there are a lot of temptations in this world, but his love remains with his woman at home. “The world outside is a tempting place / But can’t compare or can’t replace / What we have it something so unique,” he sings.

“Stay” is the fourth release off Goapele’s new EP, Dreamseeker, due out May 19. The set follows her 2014 album, Strong As Glass.

New Video: Goapele – Dreamseeker

In a seemingly endless field of vibrant yellow wildflowers, Goapeles delivers euphoric vocals over exceptionally smooth production in her breathtaking visuals for “Dreamseeker.”  Directed by Sean Alexander, the video follows the sun-kissed singer basking in California’s Carrizo Plain National Monument, embracing life around her. The title track, produced by Mike Tiger, serves as an introduction to her forthcoming EP, Dreamseeker, out May 19.

The follow-up to 2014’s Strong As Glass, has already spawned the infectious first single, “Power,” the seductive song, “Secret” with a nod to Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody,” and it will feature an appearance from BJ The Chicago Kid on the standout track, “Stay.

According to Goapele, the video was shot after the wildflower “super bloom” that erupted in the wake of a rainy winter in Calif. “When I read about the super bloom I knew it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to capture,” she tells Rap-Up. “I wanted something whimsical and otherworldly to visually express the vibe of the music. Being amongst these epic wildflowers was like the trip to heaven in the movie ‘What dreams may come.’ I couldn’t ask for a better setting to intro my Dreamseeker EP.”

Goapele is currently on her “Dreamseeker Tour,” which kicked off in April and is closing in her hometown, Oakland, CA 5/18-5/21.

New Music: Goapele – Secret

Goapele returned last week with the feel-good, love-based single “Power,” and today (May 5) the angelic vocalist follows up right away with the sultry new song, “Secret.”

The Bay Area songstress borrows from Aaliyah with an interpolation of “Are You That Somebody,” on the melodic slow jam, which is the second release off her forthcoming EP, Dreamseeker, due out May 19.  Over chilling keys and a thumping 808, Goapele sings about an intoxicating, intimate relationship.

“Cause I can’t let you know / I got a secret / I hope you’re responsible / I got a secret / You bring the freak right out of me / I got a secret, can’t keep it / Say yes or say no,” she sings.

Following 2014’s Strong As Glass album, the Dreamseeker EP is said to see Goapele confidently embrace a boundless musical palette, while lyrically exploring sensuality, social consciousness, and motherhood.

“I’m a woman, but I’m also a whole person who won’t be confined to any one box,” she explained about the project. “Nobody is just one thing. Within any race, within any genre, and within any neighborhood, there’s so much diversity. As artists and especially as women of color, we have to be proud of that. I’m coming from an honest place and expressing the different parts of myself that make me whole.”

ThisisRnB Nights: Eric Benét & Friends Live at The Conga Room L.A. (Starring CeeLo, Goapele, V. Bozeman, Angie Fisher & Lalah Hathaway)

David Foster, Eric Benet

Los Angeles R&B fans enjoyed a night to remember on Friday at The Conga Room.  Kicking off the brand new showcase series ‘Neo-Soul Concerts Presents: Eric Benét & Friends,’ the Grammy nominated singer gave the packed house their monies worth and then some!

Set up as a special monthly concert for Eric and his fellow artist fiends to celebrate “real R&B music” with a live band, last night’s show brought out CeeLo Green, Goapele, Angie Fisher, V. Bozeman from the hit television show “Empire,” and special surprise guests David Foster and Lalah Hathaway.

“I’m really excited to kick off this monthly showcase in the city where I live! I can’t remember a time when LA had a consistent home to showcase talent and performances of this caliber and we need to bring it back,” said Benét.

The evening kicked off with host Chris Spencer (comedian and executive producer of BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood”) getting the crowd warmed up for a great night of music and entertainment. Eric wasted no time hitting the stage performing some of his fan favorites before bringing out the first guest of the night, Angie Fisher (Hear her amazing song “IRS” here). Next up was rising vocalist V. Bozeman who delighted the crowd with her talents. The vocals ran heavy last night as Goapele followed V and soothed everyone with her sultry tone, performing solo material as well as her duet “My Love” with Eric Benét.

The main headliner was the incomparable CeeLo Green who rocked the crowd with his many hits, but Eric had some surprises in store for the audience when he invited legendary singer/songwriter/composer David Foster on stage. Eric performed samples of David’s many classic hits while he laid the background on piano. As if that wasn’t enough Eric also brought out vocalist Lalah Hathaway for a brief performance, and rapper YoYo hit the stage as well.

What a great night it was! Check out our exclusive photos below:
