New Music: Ne-Yo feat. Ravaughn & Candice Boyd – More Than I Should

Ne-Yo is back serving up bite-sized teasers of his upcoming music with his third new release in three weeks.

Following “Earn Your Love” and his take on Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE,” the R&B gentleman debuts a surprise collaboration with two of his Compound artists, RaVaughn and Candice Boyd. The ladies join the hitmaking singer/songwriter on the dramatic, “More Than I Should: An Audio Soap Opera.”

Ne-Yo kicks off the theatrical jaunt into the minds of three lovers, who have found themselves in an experimental love triangle. Singing out to his platonic girlfriend, the crooner begins to discover a deeper, romantic love connection. “Not even my lady knows me like you know me,” sings Ne-Yo. “Damn, you just my homie / But I love the way you hold me down / Shouldn’t be feeling how I’m feeling right now / ‘Cause you got me liking you way more than I should.”

RaVaughn takes the second verse from the perspective of his homegirl. “Now, I’m feeling filthy / When I didn’t know her, it was something else, but now I’m feeling all guilty,” she sings. “Cause she cool as hell, but I still find myself / Here, liking you way more than I should.”

Candice wraps up the soap opera by playing the role of the girlfriend. “I’ve never been a fool, I’ve never been stupid,” she sings. “He’s feeling you and I always knew it.” But, then the plot twist hits with some girl-on-girl action.

“She let me kiss it / I know we agreed not to tell / But given the circumstances, oh well,” she sings. “Is it me, is it him? Tell me what’s good / Because I find myself here, liking you way more than I should.”

Ne-Yo shared the track by calling it “another appetizer.” He added: “The only thing that matters even more than the music is the story you tell.”

The singer is plotting for the release of his seventh studio album, the follow-up to 2015’s Non-Fiction, which is expected to be released later this year.

New Music: Candice Boyd – Make Me Over

R&B songstress Candice Boyd is reminiscing over earlier days in a relationship when the love made her feel beautiful, on her new single “Make Me Over.”

Unfortunately, over time her man has become less of a support and more of a critic, as she vies to rebuild her confidence and love herself.

“Tryin’ to make you happy / When makin’ you happy is making me hate myself / I just want to be beautiful / Like when our love was all brand new / God make me over / Good enough for you,” she sings.

The piano ballad may sound familiar to those that remember singer/songwriter RaVaughn, who also cut the song for her debut project, which was never released.

Candice, who is signed to Ne-Yo’s Compound Entertainment and Epic Records, recently supported Ro James on his “XIX Tour.”

Candice-French-Damn-Good-Time

Burgeoning R&B songstress Candice Boyd is right on time with the debut of her video for “Damn Good Time” featuring French Montana.

Premiering the Rodney Jerkins-produced single last month, the Epic Records signee makes her official introduction on the LA Reid-helmed label with the sizzling new visual.

Tired of all the BS in her relationships and drama in her daily life, Candice can’t wait to kick back, sip on a few drinks and forget about all her problems on the feel-good jam, which samples Fabolous and Tamia’s classic collabo “So Into You.”

“I ain’t even as drunk as I want to be yet / I don’t want to turn up, damn it I need it / I done had a week, I know you can see it, but I beat it / Now I don’t care about nothin’ but a damn good time tonight,” she sings, while French drops in for a verse about celebrating with his lady and turning up at the bar.

“The track is supposed to remind you of the weekend, a day off, and releasing the stress by hanging out with friends and family, going to the club, having a couple cocktails,” Candice told Rap-Up. “The treatment of the video is slightly different, but the song is supposed to give you that good feeling.”
