Mishon Works with Jermaine Dupri & Bryan Michael Cox On Debut Album

Dynasty Records/Columbia recording artist Mishon has much to celebrate. The ABC Family “Lincoln Heights” alum received the green light via Columbia to start working on his debut album – and he’s running full speed ahead.

To hone in on R&B greatness, he has enlisted Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox to assist in constructing the project.

“This album will reflect what the essence of R&B is to me,” says Mishon. “Since I fell in love with music, I’ve always looked up to Usher. I’ve followed his career and admired his work ethic, music and dance moves. This album will reflect Usher’s 8701with a 2013 feel. I’m excited.”

He continued: “Working with Jermaine and Bryan is a dream come true. They’ve single handedly constructed R&B for my generation and I can’t wait for my turn to make an imprint.”

Usher certainly surprised many when he made an unexpected appearance and performance at this years SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Not only was it a surprise that he came out to perform, but the act which he chose to hit the stage with, indy rock band The Afghan Wigs, was even more intriguing. Keeping the surprises coming, immediately following the appearance, Usher returned home to Atlanta and headed to the studio with friend, mentor and longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri. Many became excited when JD posted a photo on Instagram of himself wearing his big SoSoDef logo head, sitting next to Usher in the studio.

Jermaine has said he is not as focused on working with the big, established artists at the moment, but one act he will always be ready to get in the lab with certainly is, Usher. A many core fans of the R&B superstar have continued to voice their requests for him to return to the guidance and creative direction of Dupri, and frequent collaborators such as Bryan Michael Cox, it appears their hopes are being answered. The first picture was only the beginning, as this was not a fly-by-night session, but a return to continued production together. Jermaine Dupri has been the common thread in many of Usher’s hit songs and albums, but has been close to none-existent on his last 3 LP’s (0 on ‘Looking 4 Myself,’ 1 on ‘Raymond vs. Raymond’ and 2 for Dupri and 1 from Cox on ‘Here I Stand’).

The new year is officially upon us, and 2013 is looking to be a big year for Mariah Carey. The superstar diva will make her judging debut on ‘American Idol,’ and finally release her next album. Following this summers buzz single, “Triumphant” featuring Rick Ross and Meek Mill, which received a lot of negative feedback from fans, Mariah has been working steadily and has reportedly racked up a total of 10 songs with her frequent collaborators, Bryan Michael Cox and Jermaine Dupri.

Sol Village 12/19/12 (Recap & Photos)

Last night, another very successful edition of ‘Sol Village’ went down at SOB’s. Our friends at YouKnowIGotSoul and TheNext2Shine presented a great group of emerging talent. The event, which as always, was hosted by Eric Roberson, and featured Mateo, Gotham Citi, MPrynt, Mylah, Kenny Wesley and Steve Lovell.

The energy and talent level of the night was set off immediately with a soul-stirring set from Steve Lovell, Eric got the crowd involved singing happy birthday to an audience member visiting from London, Kenny Wesley entertained with his dance moves and energy.

MPrynt, who are signed to Motown, made an impression and certainly had some serious fans in attendance. Mylah, who is working with Bryan Michael Cox, shared and delivered with her beautiful vocal. Following his introduction from Kerry “Krucial” Brothers, Mateo effortlessly ran through his catalog of singles and fan favorites, receiving love from many adorning female fans in the crowd. The night was closed by emerging R&B group Gotham Citi, who are also working under Bryan Michael Cox’s label, and received a strong introduction from the platinum producer. The NYC natives tore it down with a set of covers and originals, showing their range, perfect harmonies and stage presence, closing the show with their new single “I Want You.”

Dondria “Unplugged” Performance with Bryan Michael Cox, Premieres New Single “Little Things”

So So Def Princess, Dondria recently held a live Unplugged performance online through Google+ and Youtube. Backed by R&B hitmaker Bryan Michael Cox on the keys, Dondria performed a cover of Keyshia Cole’s “Love,” and 2 original songs, including premiering her brand new single, “Little Things.”
