Bruno Mars Revisits Hawaii Home on ’60 Minutes’

Bruno Mars just dropped his brand new album 24K Magic, but the superstar singer’s life wasn’t always so golden.

During a candid interview with “60 Minutes,” Mars opened up about his upbringing, revisiting the park in Hawaii where his family used to call home. Today, the one-room structure is rundown, has no roof, and has plants growing all over its walls.

“Just so people don’t think that we were crazy,” he explains, “it did not look like this. It had a roof. It didn’t have plants growing inside. I don’t know what happened to the roof.”

His family moved around often, he says. “Where we were staying at first didn’t have a bathroom so we had to walk across the park to this other spot that had a bathroom, in the middle of the night,” he added.

According to Bruno, the family stayed in one bed, but he calls those memories “the best.”

“We had it all,” he said. “We had each other. It never felt like it was the end of the world. ‘It’s alright, we don’t got electric today. It’s alright. It’s temporary. We’re gonna figure this out.’ Maybe that’s why I have this mentality when it comes to the music. I know I’m gonna figure it out. Just give me some time.”

Stream Bruno Mars’ New Album ’24K Magic’

Throw on your best luxury bootlegs, and turn up the volume!!!

Bruno Mars has returned with his much-anticipated third studio album 24K Magic.

The follow-up to 2012’s Unorthodox Jukebox is here with plenty of funk and R&B flavor for fans who’ve already enjoyed the top 10 smash “24K Magic,” “Chunky,” and the sexy slow jam “Versace on the Floor.”

Delivering nine tracks full of “bounce,” Bruno unveils ’80s-inspired cuts like “Finesse,” “Straight Up & Down,” and “Calling All My Lovelies” featuring a voicemail from Halle Berry. Each of them, he’s said, is like a song from a soundtrack.

“With this album, I wanted to make a movie,” he told Beats 1 earlier this month. “A real movie. I told myself, ‘We’re gonna have a screenplay and we’re gonna go to that.’”

Bruno will open the American Music Awards on Sunday, but fans will have to wait until 2017 to see him on tour. His “24K Magic World Tour” kicks off March 18 in Belgium before coming to the U.S. in July.

Bruno Mars Reveals ’24K Magic’ Album Tracklisting

Before dropping 24K Magic on Friday (Nov. 18), Bruno Mars has revealed the tracklisting.

The 9-track LP followed by 2012’s Unorthodox Jukebox kicked off with the lead single and title track, which Mars has compared to a movie intro. “Chunky” — which premiered on “Saturday Night Live” — follows with even more funk. Elsewhere on the album is the smoothed-out R&B flavor of “Versace on the Floor.”

There are no featured guests, but the album is expected to include contributions from Babyface and Skrillex.

“Anytime you see us, on tour, on TV, I want to be moving,” Bruno recently told Rolling Stone. “I was very conscious on this album of the bounce.”

Following the release of 24K Magic, Bruno will embark on his “24K Magic World Tour” through Europe in March before coming to North America in July.

New Music: Bruno Mars – Versace On The Floor

After keeping his party going with “24K Magic,” Bruno Mars slows things down with the retro-tinged ballad “Versace On The Floor.”

The man knows the key to our heart, and his lady’s, as he sings over ’80s influenced keys and synths about making passionate love.

“There’s no reason to hide what we’re feeling inside right now / So baby lets just turn down the lights, and close the door / Ooh I love that dress but you won’t need it anymore,” he sings.

Bruno spoke about the track in his new Rolling Stone cover story, which refers to it as a “Boyz II Men-ish anthem.” While making it, he said: “At a certain point, I needed to stop telling you we’re gonna get down, and just get down.”

“If I start my night with 24k Magic I can only hope to end it with Versace on the Floor,” wrote Mars on Twitter.

Take it off and have a listen below. Mars’ third studio album 24k Magic hits stores on Nov. 18.

Bruno Mars Talks ’24k Magic,’ Beyoncé, Prince & Much More

Bruno Mars is notorious for avoiding interviews, but the “24K Magic” star sat down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to talk about his forthcoming album and his hit-filled journey.

Apparently, Bruno didn’t just set out to make a new LP. “With this album, I wanted to make a movie,” he said. “A real movie. I told myself, ‘We’re gonna have a screenplay and we’re gonna go to that.’”

“24K Magic” is the first glimpse of that imaginary film and that’s how Bruno planned it. “I said, if I can tell myself I’m shooting a movie and I need an opening to let everybody know what time it is, what’s that gonna sound and look like?” he explained. “It was ’24K Magic.’ That was gonna be the opening to the movie.”

So, will we actually get to see the movie? “I wanted to do it but I feel like I blew it,” he said. “I feel like it’s too late. It was only to trick myself in the studio.”

Although a movie might not be hitting theaters, Mars’ next album is dropping Nov. 18 and features a song he co-wrote with Babyface. Hear more about the LP and Bruno’s career in the interview and Q&A highlights below.
