Bruno Mars 2017 BET Awards

Watch Out! The Hooligans are in the house!!

Live from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Bruno Mars opened the 2017 BET Awards with an electrifying performance of “Perm.”

His thrilling opening number blended the 24K Magic standout with a portion of the instrumental from OutKast’s mega hit “The Way You Move.”

The Cortez-wearing Mars played the role of a maestro. He directed the star-studded crowd, in between dance sequences and breakdowns.

At one point he stopped his set and joked with the crowd, who was filming on their phones. “You can’t film and dance at the same time,” he said. “You know they’re filming it, right? You can watch it at home.”

Bruno Mars Performs “Versace On The Floor” at Billboard Music Awards

Live from Amsterdam, Bruno Mars closed out Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards with another spectacular performance of “Versace on the Floor,” while on his “24K Magic World Tour.”

Opening solo on stage, Mars delivered a romantic performance of the sexy, throwback-inspired slow jam. He added more retro flair with his laser light show, and then showed off some slick dance moves as the chorus kicked in, and his band joined him. Meanwhile, the set transformed with Tetris-like blocks which lowered to the stage for additional displays of yellow lighting, added to the blue and purple hues.

For the finale, the 24K Magic star rose atop a platform which then displayed a giant Versace logo.

Despite his show-stopping performance, the R&B crooner walked away empty handed on last. He was up for three Billboard Music Awards including: Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Album (24K Magic), and Top R&B Song (“24K Magic”).

Beyoncé, Bruno Mars Lead 2017 BET Awards Nominations

The nominations are in for the 2017 BET Awards, and it’s to little surprise that Beyoncé is reigning supreme.

Queen Bey leads the pack with seven noms, including Album of the Year (Lemonade), Video of the Year (“Sorry”), Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best Collaboration (“Freedom” with Kendrick Lamar), and more.

Mr. 24k, Bruno Mars follows right behind Bey with five noms, including Album of the Year (24K Magic), Video of the Year (“24K Magic”), and Best Male R&B/Pop Artist. But competition is stiff this year. Chance the Rapper, Solange, and Migos are all tied with four nods apiece.

Arguably the night’s biggest award, Album of the Year, features Beyoncé and Mars, as well as Solange’s A Seat at the Table, J. Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only, and Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book.

The Knowles sisters will also take on Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, and Kehlani for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. Bruno will battle Chris Brown, The Weeknd, Trey Songz, and Usher for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.

Last year, Beyoncé opened the BET Awards with a surprise performance of “Freedom” with Kendrick Lamar. Queen Bey also won five awards at the event, including Best Female R&B Pop Artist.

The 17th annual BET Awards will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on June 25 at 8 p.m. ET. The ceremony will follow the BET Experience at L.A. Live, which is scheduled to run June 22-25.
