The stars came out at the 2014 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood on Friday night. The annual industry event celebrates the songwriters, producers and publishers of the most-performed R&B/Hip-Hop songs of the previous year. This year’s show honored rapper/mogul Ludacris for his achievements in songwriting and his global influence on culture and entertainment with the prestigious BMI President’s Award.

Following video tributes from Usher, Lil Jon, and Tom Cruise, Luda hit the stage for a medley of his greatest hits including “What’s Your Fantasy,” “Yeah,” “How Low,” “Southern Hospitality,” “Area Codes,” and “Move Bitch” with special guest Mystikal.

The star-studded event also featured performances from TeeFlii (“24 Hours”), Tamar Braxton (“Love and War”) and YG (“My Hitta” and “Who Do You Love”).

Chris Brown was in the house and received a Special Citation of Achievement recognizing over 1 million broadcast performances of his hit “Forever.”

“I just appreciate all the singers and the songwriters who helped me get to this point making all this great music,” said Breezy. “I didn’t do it by myself. The fans really jump started it.”

Future accepted multiple awards including one for his ex Ciara’s “Body Party,” which he co-wrote and produced. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis earned Song of the Year for “Can’t Hold Us” and Lil Wayne was crowned Songwriter of the Year. Zendaya won the BMI Social Star Award and Detail, J-Roc, and DJ Mustard were honored as Producers of the Year.

Jeremih, Estelle & Fabolous Perform at vitaminwater & The FADER’s #Uncapped Concert

Jeremih & Fabolous uncapped

The FADER and vitaminwater have partnered once again to present #uncapped, a series of concerts dedicated to supporting emerging musical talent and “hydrating the hustle” of today’s breakthrough artists.

The concert series kicked off last night in New York City with live performances by Jeremih and Run The Jewels (Killer Mike and El-P).

Dressed in all-black with a gold chain and dark wayfarers, Jeremih opened his set with a live rendition of “Bo Peep” supported by a four-piece band. Not too long into the set, the special guests started rolling out. First was Estelle, who joined Jeremih for their duet “Be In Love,” before performing her mega-hit “American Boy,” with Jeremih providing harmonies.

Harlem’s Vado showed up to rap on him and Jeremih’s recent collaboration, “Bae,” but it was NYC hip-hop staple Fabolous, who stole the show joining Jeremih for a couple tracks, including their hit “Thim Slick.” The R&B crooner wrapped things up with two electric performances: a slightly downtempo take on his breakthrough hit, “Birthday Sex,” and his newest smash, the YG-featured “Don’t Tell ‘Em.”

Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Nelly & More Protest Michael Brown Shooting at Celebrity Flag Football Game

flag-football-game-6-475x467

Following last month’s kickball game, Chris Brown and Quincy teamed up to host a charity flag football game at Jack Kemp Stadium at Occidental College in L.A. on Saturday.

Team Breezy, which included Game, Wale, Tyga, Trey Songz, Bow Wow, and Omarion, defeated Team Quincy 42-21.

Despite reports that they broke up, Chris was seen cozying up to his on-again-off-again girlfriend Karrueche, who was all smiles as Chris put his arms around her. He later posted an Instagram photo of them together in the car.

At the end of the game, Missouri native Nelly got on the mic and asked everyone to put their hands up and say “Don’t Shoot” in protest of the police shooting that left unarmed teenager Michael Brown dead in Ferguson, Mo. Chris, Bow Wow, Trey, Lil Mama, Wale, and the rest of the stadium stood in solidarity with their hands up.

“If anybody can sympathize with what my city is going through, it’s this city of L.A. right now on so many levels,” said Nelly, who was wearing a #MikeBrown tank top. “So for that respect alone, I’m asking you, I’m begging you, and I’m pleading for you to just raise your hands for a second.”
