The next single lifted off Pharrell‘s acclaimed new album G I R L is the opening track “Marilyn Monroe.” After receiving some unnecessary backlash over supposedly not featuring any African American women on his album cover, which he actually did, the hit-maker makes a strong statement for the beautiful dark skinned ladies with the stunning single cover art. Featuring model Khadija Shari, the image might also be the first look at the upcoming visuals, which we can expect very soon.
“What I wanted to do is sort of reverse the connotation behind these statuesque standards of what beauty has to be,” Pharrell said about the song. “You can be every color, any shape, any size and any sexual orientation, because you’re a girl or a woman. We at I Am Other [his company] believe that what makes you different, is what makes you special.”
