Jeremih Talks Setbacks In His Career, Teases ‘Late Nights’ Tour

jeremih-billboard

R&B crooner Jeremih is on a roll.

While his hit single “Don’t Tell ‘Em” is still sitting comfortably on the Billboard Hot 100 and his recent announcement of going on tour with rapper French Montana, one can’t help but think “What took so long for all of this to happen?”

Jeremih, 27, arrived on the scene in 2009 with his breakout single, “Birthday Sex”. Although the song was definitely a hit, the singer made it his point to stay out of the spotlight until he delivered his second smash hit, “Down On Me” featuring 50 Cent. Found on his sophomore album, All About You, the song received instant play all over. Even after receiving acclaim for both albums, people were still clueless as to who Jeremih really was.

Now, four years later, the singer is ready to take off the mask and tear down that wall that separates him from his fans. Discussing with Billboard magazine the process of becoming who he is now, the singer-songwriter states that he blames himself for the disconnect and inconsistency in his career. Jeremih, who is also featured on the chart-topping DJ Khaled single “Hold You Down,” is another artist who brings the lack of support from his label to light. “My label is hesitating and not being on my side,” he says. “I see other artists and how they’re supported. It’s hard when I’m on a roster with Rihanna, Rick Ross and Kanye West.”

Aside from his shy away from the limelight and personal issues (baby mama drama & $700 worth of damage at a Fuddrucker’s restaurant), the talented crooner is ready to get the shine that he deserves this time around. Telling Billboard, “I want to show some skin now. Over the next few months, if you don’t hear about me, something’s wrong.”

With the album (which has yet to secure an official release date), the tour with French Montana, and his own personal “Late Nights” tour in the pipeline, we’re sure that Jeremih will make up for time lost this time around.

Take a look as he reveals his plans for the tour and more below, and check out the full interview here!

Mary J. Blige Shares Her World In New ‘Billboard’ Cover Story

mjb-billboard

Mary J. Blige has become one of the most legendary singers in the R&B genre to date. From her relevancy over the last 20 years to overcoming her own personal battles, the life and times of MJB has been an incredible story to watch. And, if you’re as lucky as some of us, you’ve been able to watch it from her arrival on the scene in the early ’90s, up until where she is now in 2014.

Covering this month’s issue of Billboard magazine, The Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul took some time to discuss her 13th album, The London Sessions, as well as her expansive and interesting journey through the music industry. Opening up about her tremulous past, the icon stated: “I was ready to just check out. It was a moment — I can’t get into it — but I saw my life going and I was grabbing for it. I was like, ‘No, no, no, no, no.’ That’s when I realized that I don’t want to die. And I switched, and I started praying and crying, and my life shifted right there.”

Now, two years sober, Mary told the famed outlet, “Sometimes I go to dinner with my sister and my friends, but it’s very light now because I don’t drink and hang out anymore,” she says. “So you know I can’t be in a club. If I ever felt like going out and dancing, I could do it. I could sit around everybody while they’re drinking, but I just don’t want to.”

In addition to touching on her past, MJB the MVP, talked receiving advice from her go-to man Elton John, her budding friendship with Sam Smith, what she keeps in rotation, Amy Winehouse, and much more. Perhaps one of the best interviews she’s given recently, you can’t help but love Mary even more after reading this.

Probably the most interesting quote from the interview thus far though, is Rihanna’s response to the question of what she would be if she weren’t a singer to which she answered, “A wife.” We’re not sure if she’s looking to settle down soon, but we’re sure that ELLE grabbed all the details for that one.

Those are the women I daydreamed about growing up.”

Another issue that the public has been very vocal about is the apparent lack of support from celebrities throughout the drama surrounding the Michael Brown killing in Ferguson, Mo. Pharrell says: “I don’t talk about race since it takes a very open mind to hear my view, because my view is the sky view. But I’m very troubled by what happened in Ferguson, Mo.”  The hit maker then went on to state: “When things like that happen, we need to be a united cell. We need connective tissue to be linked by spirit and spirituality.”
