Listen: Mr Jukes feat. BJ The Chicago Kid – Angels / Your Love

Yes Lawd!

Had to borrow Anderson .Paak’s signature phrase for this one!  What a joy it was to stumble upon this jam by previous Bombay Bicycle Club frontman, Jack Steadman, who has branched off as a soul producer under the alias Mr Jukes.  The talented craftsman has traveled back into brassy funk past and brought back some head bobbing vibes with his insanely groovy new single “Angels / Your Love” featuring BJ The Chicago Kid.

The two songs are stitched together perfectly, as “Angels” boasts a stupendous wailing trumpet that plays backdrop to a mesmerizing airy vocal that gives off Brazilian jazz memories. A classic hip hop break beat with saxophone plays the perfect transition into BJ’s soulful vocals. The Chicago raised crooner sings out to a new lover, “I thought I was good, but I really wasn’t livin’ / Cause I ain’t have the feeling you’re givin’ / Thinking about your love.”

Mr. Jukes will release his debut album, God First, on June 9 via Island Records, it is set to include additional features from Lianne La Havas, Charles Bradley, Elli Ingram, Lalah Hathaway and more.
