Mariah Carey Connects with Rapper YG for New Breakup Anthem

Mariah Carey is out here in these streets.

Following a studio session with Travis Scott and DJ Khaled, the pop superstar has connected with west coast rap star YG for an upcoming single. According to TMZ, the two recorded what is being called a ‘breakup anthem’ and shot a music video over the weekend.

Both the song and video are set to premiere on the season finale of Carey’s E! docu-series “Mariah’s World” on Sunday, Jan. 29. The track was reportedly inspired by real life events, given her recent split from fiancé James Packer. Insiders say Mariah hopes the song will help women overcome their own heartbreaks.

On Sunday (Jan. 22), MC and YG celebrated their work together with dinner at Catch in West Hollywood, where they were asked about a possible collaboration. YG simply told paparazzi: “I don’t know what we doin’.”

Mariah was also mum on the possibility of a collab. She only responded to a question about whether she would perform at a New Year’s Eve event this year following her recent ill-fated set. “Yeah, okay,” she said sarcastically. “That’s what I’ll be doing.”

Songwriter and producer Bryan-Michael Cox confirmed on Twitter that the song is produced by himself and Jermaine Dupri.

Mariah is currently working on the follow-up to 2014’s Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse, her first album since signing to Epic Records.
