R.I.P: Legendary Music Icon Prince Passes Away at 57

The Associated Press has officially reported that music icon and legend, Prince, has passed away at the age of 57.

His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, told the AP that the music icon was found dead at his home Thursday (April 21) in Chanhassen, Minneapolis.

The singer, songwriter, arranger and instrumentalist was widely acclaimed as one of the most inventive musicians of his era, drawing upon influences ranging from James Brown to the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix. His hits included “Little Red Corvette,” ”Let’s Go Crazy,” “When Doves Cry” and many many more.

The Minneapolis native broke through in the late 1970s with the hits “Wanna Be Your Lover” and soared over the following decade with such albums as 1999 and Purple Rain.

Prince was hospitalized last week after his plane for was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Ill. Released a few hours later, a rep told TMZ that he had been battling a bad case of the flu.
