John Legend is swapping his piano bench for the executive producer’s seat on the upcoming Civil War drama Underground.
Debuting in early 2016, the WGN scripted series will tell the emotional stories of plantation slaves trying to fight for freedom and flee the war through the Underground Railroad. From the writers of Heroes, Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, the show will feature some familiar faces with actors Jussie Smollett (Empire), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Friday Night Lights), Chris Meloni (Law and Order: SVU) and Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta Compton) set to star.
The teaser prominently spotlights the A$AP Rocky cut “Everyday” featuring Miguel. Legend will oversee the show’s musical aspects after already seeing success in film after he and rapper Common bagged an Oscar for the 2014 Selma soundtrack “Glory” in February.
