Throwback Thursday: Next – Too Close

By

Next is a R&B group, most popular during the late 1990s. “Too Close” was the second single off their double-platinum debut album Rated Next. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B singles chart, becoming their biggest and best known hit. The record is about a man who has become aroused by a woman who is dancing with him out on the dance floor, and well….. you remember the lyrics, “You’re dancing real close…you’re making it hard for me!”

Next was loved for their ability to swing between party anthems and tender ballads, as well as for possessing a bit of soulfulness. R&B fans were most captivated by the group’s former smooth and charismatic lead singer R.L., who led most songs. He is currently working on a new solo album.
