ThisisRnB Presents: The Top 20 R&B Albums of 2014

#6. Chris Brown – ‘X’

While years before 2014 have seen Chris Brown go through the ups and downs of the industry – including lack of support for his music – the singer has continuously pushed on in his pursuit of musical perfection. Pushing back his well-anticipated album X for more than a year, it seemed as if fans would never be able to hear the transparent and more mature sound that Breezy had been promoting during the rougher patch (i.e. rehab / jail time) of his life.

Finally delivering the album in September, it was clear that all that he had to offer was well worth the wait. Featuring previously released singles, “Don’t Think They Know,” “Fine China,” “Love More,” and the summer smash “Loyal,” listeners would soon find out that the album encompassed more than just a hit here and there. Filled with relatable lyrics, rhythmic beats, and mind racing plots, Chris Brown’s track selection easily set the album up for greatness.

After many listens, X is the type of album that promotes those songs that you just can’t get tired of. Whether you’re sending a late night text after a couple drinks or realizing that the person you were with was just like the rest, the album hosts something for everyone. From R&B to Pop infused sounds, X touched our mind, body, and souls this time around and for that, we appreciate it. – K.P.

I liked Mariah’s album as well. I’m still shocked that not to many people got to hear it. Dave Hollister and Johnny Gill and Dave Hollister’s albums were also pretty decent.

D’Angelo definitely had my favorite album last year.

Chris Brown & August Alsina had some good albums too but that’s about it. I hope Badu and Soulchild come with some heat this year.
