The Lifetime cable channel continues to take risks with their latest biopics depicting some of music’s biggest lost stars. Following the utter hatred over their made-for-tv movie Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, the network is moving forward, full steam ahead, with their Angela Bassett-directed movie about Whitney Houston.

To build up some buzz for the film, Lifetime has given Entertainment Tonight an exclusive clip featuring actress Yaya Dacosta as Whitney in the studio as she records her 1988 hit, “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” while Babyface (played by Wesley Jonathan) oversees the recording.

As previously reported, singer Deborah Cox supplied the sung vocals for the entire film, which are heard in this clip.

Whitney‘ will air on January 17 at 8 PM on Lifetime.

Watch Yaya in action as Whiney in the clip below. What do you think??
