Sam Smith – or the “New King of Ballads” as we’ve dubbed him – has had one incredible year! While it seems as if he literally tip-toed onto the scene this year with his breakout single “Stay With Me,” Sam’s success spans back to 2012 when he was featured on the Disclosure single, “Latch” – which become extremely popular in the U.S. as well this year.
However, 2014 was truly Sam’s year. Single-handedly bringing ballads back to the radio, Sam has been on fire and the timing couldn’t be any more perfect. Remixing his lead single with Mary J. Blige and crossing over in the rap scene with A$AP Rocky, the UK crooner won’t be shifting from his position in the industry anytime soon. With the superb quality of his music, one has the ability to hear every bit of emotion Sam is feeling as he belts out his stories through poignant lyrics. All of this plus more, lands the singer on our list of artists we’re thankful for this year.
