Throwback Tuesday: Marc Nelson – ’15 Minutes’

By

Marc Nelson is a singer, songwriter and musician. He was an original member of Boyz II Men as well as a member of R&B groups Az Yet and Blayse. Growing impatient with delays in Boyz II Men, Nelson left the group to focus on songwriting and a solo career. Following the release of his debut album, he gained the attention of Babyface, and began writing songs for artists like Toni Braxton, Brandy, Tamia, Tyrese and Jon B.

Through Babyface, Nelson met the four members of the group Az Yet, at this time, and he was added to the line-up as second lead vocalist. The group was signed to LaFace Records. Nelson subsequently left Az Yet to focus on his solo career again. He released his second solo album, Chocolate Mood, in 1999. “15 Minutes” was the lead single off of the album. It reached No. 4 on the R&B Singles chart and No. 27 on the Hot 100. The single is Nelson’s biggest solo hit to date. A young Gabrielle Union is featured in the video.
