Throwback Thursday: Silk – ‘Freak Me’

By

Well, BET certainly got it right this past Sunday at the 2014 BET Awards with the ’90s medley segment featuring Silk, Color Me Badd, and Troop! Silk certainly brought the house down performing their classic hit “Freak Me.” Remember sensual and sexy baby-making R&B?!!

Silk formed in 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia and were discovered by none other than R&B OG Keith Sweat. Their signature single “Freak Me” was a classic hit released on the quintet’s 1993 platinum album Lose Control. The single reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks, and the Hot R&B Singles chart for seven weeks. The song is most noted for Lil’ G’s soulful lead vocals, Jimmy and Timzo’s bass spoken-word sections, and the group’s nicely harmonized background vocals. The song followed the sexy and sensual format of ’90s R&B.

Silk is definitely one of the best R&B groups ever along with Jodeci, H-Town & Boyz II Men.
