R&B Stars React to Maya Angelou’s Passing

Today, the world lost one of it’s greatest voices. According to reports, Maya Angelou has died in North Carolina at the age of 86. The groundbreaking author, poet, and civil rights activist used her words to inspire and bring about change.

In a statement on her Facebook page, her family remembered her as a “warrior for equality, tolerance, and peace.”

Being a huge inspiration to so many, celebrities have also taken to social media to celebrate her legacy.

Beyoncé called her a “phenomenal woman” and posted a handwritten copy of her poem “Still I Rise,” while Rihanna recalled reading her memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings as a teenager. Other R&B stars including Mary J. Blige quoted some of her famous words.
