Throwback Tuesday: D’Angelo – “Lady”

By

D’Angelo is a R&B and neo-soul singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. He is known for his production and songwriting talents as much as for his vocal abilities, and often draws comparisons to his influences, Marvin Gaye and Prince.

“Lady” was the third single released off his 1995 platinum debut album Brown Sugar.  The song was also co-written by Tony! Toni! Tone!’s Raphael Saadiq who also happens to play the track’s funky bass line. It contains melodious chords and timeless vocal runs. The music video mainly takes place at a house party (classic ’90s feel), but also shows D’Angelo at various locations professing his love to his lady. D’Angelo is often referred to as one of the torch bearers of R&B soul and funk.
