NBC’s The Voice returns tonight for the first episode of the infamous ‘Battle Rounds.’  In preparation for the ‘sing for your life’ style competition the show conducted new interviews with the coaches and their special guest advisers.

Returning for the show’s 6th Season, Usher talks about his team and his approach to the battles this season. “My strategy this season is to be a lot more soulful,” says the R&B superstar. “The soulful essence of their performance or whatever their genre is, is really what I hope to establish being here.” Additionally he spoke about what Jill Scott can bring to his team.

Jilly from Philly talks about why The Voice is one of her favorite shows, her respect for Usher and how she hopes to make a difference to the artists on his team. “The best advice I can give any of the contestants is to listen to your coach and forgive yourself. You’re gonna make mistakes, it’s not always going to be perfect the way you intended it be, there’s a lot of components, nerves, the crowd…forgive yourself and sing with all your heart.”

Buzzing soul singer Aloe Blacc will be joining Team Adam as Mr. Levine’s adviser this season. Similar to Jill he expressed his love for the show’s format, and how he hopes to help the artists on Adam’s team. “If you can be yourself and allow your lyrics, your voice and your style to be magnified, then the rest of the world will see it, and accept you as a unique individual.”

The Voice airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 8pm on NBC. Check out the interviews below:
