Exclusive: Mario Switching Labels? Talks Sound of New Album, What R&B Needs Today

By

This past Sunday, The Evan Grace Group presented the ‘Heels of Greatness’ gala honoring 27 influential and inspiring women in Atlanta.  Held at the luxurious and historical Estate at Piedmont, the event was hosted by Monyetta Shaw and Kenny Burns, and sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead and Malibu Red.

R&B superstar Ne-Yo was in the building to support his children’s mother, as well as his own mother who was one of the ladies honored. Among the other nominees, which included Kandi Burruss, Tameka Raymond and many more.  To cap off the evenings festivities R&B vocalist Mario surprised guests with a short performance, including his past hits “Break Up,” and “Let Me Love You.”

Following his set, ThisisRnB TV caught up with Mario for an interview in the wine cellar.  The singer gave us an update on his anticipated forthcoming album Evolve, which he hinted at being pushed back because he’s about to enter into a new business venture…Does that mean he’s switching labels?? We’ll have to wait and see!  Additionally Mario spoke about the new progressive sound he is working on, why he thinks Miguel is one of the only artists really putting on for R&B right now, and what he thinks the genre needs to stay relevant.

Check out the interview and performance footage above!
