Alicia Keys, Janelle Monáe & Stevie Wonder Perform at ‘Global Citizen Festival’

Many of music’s biggest stars used their voices to support the awareness of worldwide poverty at the ‘Global Citizen Festival’ on Saturday in New York City.

The festival, which was held at the Great Lawn in Central Park, drew 60,000 in attendance. It’s mission – the end of extreme poverty worldwide. Alicia Keys, Janelle Monáe, Maxwell, Stevie Wonder and more helped spread influence of the campaigns objective.

Ms. Keys opened with “New Day,” and went into a medley of her many hits including “If I Ain’t Got You.” She dedicated “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart” to “all the children of the world who might have to sleep with a broken heart,” and closed with the anthemetic “Empire State of Mind (Part II).”

Stevie Wonder was the nights closer, following an introduction from Bono of U2, the music icon had everyone hyped with his classics such as “Sir Duke,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and “My Cherie Amour.” He covered The Beatles “Day Tripper” and “Imagine,” plus brought out Janelle Monáe to assist him with “Higher Ground,” and called up Maxwell for “Superstition.”
