Slow Jam of the Day: Shai – If I Ever Fall In Love

Shai’s “If I Ever Fall In Love” is a good example of how different radio is these days. In 1992 they ruled the charts with what is basically an a capella song. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1992, and spent one week at No. 1 on the US R&B chart. It actually spent eight weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, being held off from the top slot only due to the massive success of “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston.

Now, when you listen to this, those of you that are fans of The Weeknd, pay attention to the style and some of the sounds used in the verses, and tell me this doesn’t show some similarities to his style now.
