Throwback: Phyllis Hyman – Living All Alone
Phyllis Linda Hyman was a actress/singer, born in Philadelphia, raised in Pittsburgh. The popular, six-foot soul and jazz beauty, was signed to Arista, where she released her self titled album “Phyllis Hyman,” which produced the hit single “Somewhere in My Lifetime.” Her further hits included “The Answer is You,” “Meet Me On The Moon,” “Living All Alone” and “Don’t Want To Change The World.” In 1986, she signed with the Philadelphia International label, recorded albums “Living All Alone” (1986), “Prime of My Life” (1991) and appeared in the Spike Lee film “School Daze” (1988). Into the early ’90s, she was performing live shows at large urban theaters such as Harlem’s ‘Apollo,’ Oakland’s ‘Paramount’ and ‘Fox Theatre’ in St. Louis.
On the afternoon of June 30, 1995, Hyman committed suicide by overdosing on pentobarbital and secobarbital in her New York City apartment. She was 45.
FUN FACT: Phyllis was the cousin of actor Earle Hyman (best known for his recurring role on TV’s The Cosby Show as Cliff’s father, Russell Huxtable).
Rihanna Invades Pearl Harbor For ‘Battleship’ Photo Call
Rihanna continued the promo for her role in the upcoming movie Battleship at the Battleship Missouri Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on Saturday. She paraded around with castmates Brooklyn Decker, Taylor Kitsch, and Alexander Skarsgard while posing for photos at the historic site where the action-packed film was shot.
The filmed has already grossed over $100 million overseas and attacks U.S. theaters shortly on May 18.
Alicia Keys, Swizz Beats, Mary J. Blige And John Legend Attend White House Correspondents’ Dinner
A few of R&B’s biggest stars got the chance to mingle with the President at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday night. Alicia Keys was in attendance with her husband Swizz Beatz, who attended as guests of Bloomberg. Other attendees included Mary J. Blige, Jimmy Kimmel, Steven Spielberg and John Legend who arrived with his beautiful fiancé, Christine Teigen.

Last night our world was spun around, as we were some of the lucky few to witness a literally historic performance, from one of R&B’s greatest entertainers … Usher Raymond.
