EVENT RECAP: MELANIE FIONA “THE MF LIFE” LISTENING PARTY

By

This past Thursday (March 8th) the lovely Melanie Fiona brought her MF Life to NYC. The soulful songstress held an intimate industry listening party at the famed Electric Lady Studios, for her anticipated sophomore album The MF Life. As the live room was just becoming annoyingly hot Mel arrived and stepped right to the microphone, excited and a little nervous she addressed the media based crowd, describing her passion and emotion toward the LP.

The event continued on as the album was played in full length, only stopping for brief intervals where Mel wanted to share details and feelings about some of the songs. She went around the room with a purple heart stamp, similar to her tattoo, and put a stamp on everybody’s arm or neck, saying she was giving out love. Check out our photos and a brief preview of the songs below…

Prior to the listening event, it was assumed, based off the previously released singles and leaked tracks, that Ms. Fiona was on the mends from a painful break-up, and multiple troublesome relationships with the opposite sex. Upon hearing the full set it was undoubtedly clear, but the LP also revels with the optimism of still finding that real thing.

The MF Life Tracklisting:

01. This Time featuring J. Cole

02. 4 AM

03. Break Down These Walls – (A powerful track about the troubles of a couple getting passed their issues caused by old relationships, to let their hearts open again, very strong vocal with gritty electric guitar based production)

04. I Been That Girl – (Written and produced by Drake, a dope drum beat based track with empowering lyrics of learning from past mistakes)

05. Wrong Side of A Love Song

06. Running featuring Nas – (Prod by Salaam Remi, a favorite of Mel’s from the album, about the perseverance of her devotion for love, a quoted line “It’s like I’m chasing down a love, and there’s no finish line in sight.”

08. Gone and Never Coming Back

11. Can’t Say I Never Loved You – (happiness is back with this infectious track)

While it could seem a little lengthy at 17, there are truly no bad records. Melanie is about to deliver the first great R&B/Soul album of the year, and who knows the Grammy winner might even have one of the best of 2012! We can see more Grammy noms coming in the near future.
