FROM THE VAULT: JHENE AIKO – NO L.O.V.E. (2003)

Did a little digging this past weekend through cd boxes in storage, and look what caught my eye. Jhene Aiko is on many folks ‘artists to watch’ list this year after the buzzed about release of her 2011 mixtape “Sailing Souls.” Now with a brand new deal through producer No ID’s label and Def Jam Records, Jhene is working on her next free release and debut album. But, rewind almost 10 years and the sweet singer had a deal via T.U.G./Epic Records. A then 15-year old Jhene released just one single, the KayGee produced “No L.O.V.E.,” which actually did well on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts.

As we all await new gems from Jhene take a trip down memory lane with her very first single.

VIDEO: JEFF BRADSHAW FEAT. MARSHA AMBROSIUS & TYRONE TWYSE – GOT TIL IT’S GONE

Marsha Ambrosius teams with trombonist Jeff Bradshaw on a cover of Janet Jackson’s 1997 hit “Got Til It’s Gone,” which originally sampled Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi.” The song, also featuring Christian rapper Tyrone TWyse, appears on Bradshaw’s double CD Bon Appetit, due April 24. The British songstress sits on a stoop in New Orleans’ 9th Ward, as she and her fellow musicians pay homage to the hurricane-ravaged city.

“Watch, enjoy, and remember our brothers and sisters in NOLA!!! There is still work to be done there!!!” said Bradshaw.

NEW MUSIC: DAWN RICHARD – ARMOR ON (EP) (FULL ALBUM STREAM)

Dawn Richard challenges the definition of R&B with her EP, Armor On. The former Danity Kane and Dirty Money diva isn’t serving up classic soul-drenched records on this project—she’s putting her own spin on a brand of music that has a place for R&B-heavy ballads, pop tunes, and dance sensibilities. The EP, which was produced primarily by Druski—he crafted nine of the 10 tracks, Rick Rude helmed “Faith”—is a prelude to her full-length solo debut, GoldenHeart.

Throughout the impressive body of work, the New Orleans native addresses broken relationships, the temptation of the music industry, a positive support system, and true romance. The soundscapes Druski offers never drown Dawn’s vocals, but rather serve as the bed for her poignant lyrics to rest on. Dawn will release her latest project on iTunes tomorrow March 27.

VIDEO: KAMERON CORVET – F_CK LOVE (WORLD PREMIERE)

Last month we introduced you to Kameron Corvet with the Valentines release of his EP “F_ck Love.” Today, we bring you the world premiere of the emerging singer/songwriter/musician’s brand new video for the title track.

Speaking on the video Kam told us, “The concept behind this video was honesty. In my experience like the experiences of so many others, “Love” is something that we can tend to desire because of the stories of happy endings we’ve grown accustomed to hearing. The reality is, getting to the point where that one true love is discovered comes after overcoming the many false versions that came before it. Arriving at that “F_ck, Love” moment is both a realization of being human and hating that reality at the same time. So, this video was an attempt to capture a glimpse of how it can go down.”
