VIDEO: “A DREAMERS DREAM” FEATURING TYRESE AND JILL SCOTT

By

With about a week left in Black History Month R&B favorite and sometimes motivational speaker Tyrese has released an attention grabbing video that he directed and produced himself. The 13-minute visual features actor Blair Underwood speaking with Martin Luther King Jr. (played by Tyrese) and Coretta Scott King (played by Jill Scott). “Dr. King” touches on various topics and issues currently facing America and provides insight and advice on how to move forward. It’s not music related, but a much needed message none-the-less.

I watched this video twice as I wasn’t sure about it the first time round. I’m a fan of Tyrese and Jill Scott and Blair underwood, this holds the films appeal. Tyrese has been plugging the film on twitter and appears to be a very passionate individual and concerned about politics. This I feel interfers with the audio film. Id hate to be referred to as a hater because I dislike the production, but I am slightly baffled about the story line , and I may be wrong but a Black actor asks God for some guidance in prayer and God rather provides him with Dr King and Mrs King and they furnish him with advice for Barack Obama (president) why? Is it because he’s black, I understand the point trying to be made here but I feel the over zealousness of Tyrese branching out of hi comfort zone, singing makes this a 2* maybe 3 for effort. I am a black British lady and am in support of positive individuals doing Something for the betterment of others, so I appreciate what Tyrese has done, and hope he can take this as feedback rather than criticism.

Continuing on from what said, In my opinion,( As I said I was offering feedback not criticism) Blair underwood should not have played himself, he should have played a character loosely based on Barack Obama, it’s a bit narcissistic playing himself. I say this because the opening scene reminded me of his character in ‘the bible experience’ as Jesus (another role when he is exalted).
