NE-YO HOLDS ANNUAL COMPOUND PRE-GRAMMY BRUNCH

Saturday night Compound Entertainment and Ne-Yo hosted their annual Midnight Brunch, which turned into a Whitney Houston tribute at Hollywood hotspot Supper Club. Celebrities such as Will.I.Am, Kelis, Estelle, Brandy, Ray J, KeKe Palmer, Rosci Diaz, Ciara and many more celebrated Houston’s legacy by dancing to her hit songs spun by DJ MOS and toasted to her life and legacy. So moved by the energy of the event, singers Miguel and Marsha Ambrosius treated guests to surprise performances.

Ne-Yo commemorated the life of the six-time Grammy winner, saying that the death of the iconic chanteuse was not a time for mourning but for celebrating life.

“The wonderful thing about Whitney Houston was she was the kind of person that you could not keep down,” Ne-Yo told Billboard. “She went through bumps and bruises in her career, in her life, whatever the case may be. That’s human, everybody goes through it, but it’s not about the fall — it’s about the get back up. That’s what Whitney Houston was about, the get-back-up. So even in this situation she wouldn’t want us to be sad right now, she would want us to celebrate the great thing that her life was as well, as opposed to mourning her death.”

All of last night’s events seem surreal right now, while most of the industry was in shock over the passing of Whitney Houston, there were still some parties in full effect. WHITNEY REMEMBERED AT CLIVE DAVIS PRE-GRAMMY PARTY

HipHollywood was on the scene at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy party last night at the Beverly Hilton hotel. The event held a very somber tune as some of Whitney’s peers and other artists remembered the legend.

Toni Braxton shared, “I will always remember Whitney because she was a great gal, she was like my big sister in the business, she gave me great advice, she taught me how to Stand.” And Ne-Yo said, “I honestly feel like Whitney Houston being the person that she was, she would want the show to go on, she would want us to celebrate. I feel like this night is supposed to be about celebrating her life and not mourning her death.”

WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU! A LOVE BALLAD FOR THE GREAT WHITNEY HOUSTON

I write this listening to the late Ms. Houston’s famous rendition of “I Will Always Love You” (on repeat). It’s a song that celebrates love; a love that will continue in the nontraditional sense. A song that proclaims a love that lives on through physical deterioration and no need for reciprocation. While this remains an anthem for any serious love affair (in my book), it gives a different air tonight.

The tune speaks to loving a legend that doesn’t know of your existence. Loving them past the flaws of supposedly private life and most importantly, not letting their personal mishaps prevent you from honoring the gift of their art. Whitney’s gift was music. And while her repertoire is an abundance of love songs and comical movie characters, her most outstanding gift to this world was her actual love for the music. Follow the jump for the complete tribute and staff pick of a Whitney Houston classic.
