MATEO ROCKS THE ROXY IN LOS ANGELES

By

Mateo gave concertgoers a taste of his musicianship at his headlining show at The Roxy in West Hollywood on Thursday night (Oct. 20). The R&B singer-songwriter, who will release his debut album on Kerry “Krucial” Brothers’ label Krucial Noise, performed a nearly hour-long set following openers Dawn Richard and Stacy Barthe.

“This is not only my time, it’s our time,” he told the packed crowd. “Just persevere and keep it going.”

While seated at his glowing piano with an illuminated “M” behind him, Mateo impressed with cuts off his latest mixtape “Love & Stadiums,” debuted new material from his upcoming album, and thrilled with covers of Kanye West’s “Power” and Chris Brown’s “Beautiful People.”

He closed with Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” and his Alicia Keys-assisted single “Say It’s So,” as a roomful of new fans looked on.
