Don’t mess with Rihanna, or Shontelle for that matter, since she wrote it. RiRi is killing more than the game in the brand new video for her Reggae-tinged single “Man Down”. The Anthony Mandler directed visual, shot in Jamaica, tells the story of a troubled women, dealing with an abusive man. As always Mandler did his thing behind the lens. Check it out. What do you think?
Melanie Fiona challenges her fans to cover “Gone and Never Coming Back” for a chance to win $500 and a chance to chat with her!
Maxwell bared his soul when he taped “VH1 Storytellers” before an intimate 150-member audience at Metropolis Studios in New York City earlier this month. The R&B crooner and his 10-piece, all-star band delivered a soulful set, bringing fans onstage at one point for an impromptu dance party.
“‘Storytellers’ has been around for 15 years, and it’s been 15 years since I put out my first album Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite,” the humble star told the crowd. “You have this dream as a kid, and the next thing you know you’re at ‘VH1 Storytellers’ and the crowd is singing along to your songs. It’s a blessing.”
During the 12-song set, Maxwell performed hits spanning his catalog, including recent hits “Pretty Wings” and “Fistful of Tears” from his 2009 Grammy-winning album BLACKsummers’night. As he prepares for the sequel’s arrival later this year, he took fans back in time to play past favorites and celebrate his storied career.
“VH1 Storytellers: Maxwell” will premiere on June 17 at 11 p.m.
Ciara is having a wild time in South Africa. Following her trip to Zimbabwe to perform at ZarFest, CiCi found time to enjoy a safari through the historic Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, the country’s oldest park.
“Riding on a Safari in South Africa! this is Surreal! This was something I always dreamed of!” tweeted the singer, who rode through the park in an open-air truck, getting up close with wildfire including zebras, rhinos, and elephants. “Here’s me trying to catch the cheetah…he can run from 0 to 110 km in 3.3 seconds,” wrote CiCi, boldly petting the fierce feline.
Check out more photos from her African adventure.
Ready For The World may be most famous for their 1985 hit “Oh Sheila” but their second hit 1986′s “Love You Down” is one of my favorite R&B ballads of the 80′s. Many of you might be more familiar with Inoj’s uptempo remake from 1997, which is a great Summer record, and with Summer feeling like it is already here I felt like sharing this.
On a recent promo stop in Belgium, Corey “Latif” Williams treated the listeners of Contact R&B Radio to a live in-studio performance of his new single “Magnificent”. Real nice vocal, shout to DJ Daddy K and Paddy.
Jagged Edge are readying the release of their 7th studio album, The Remedy (due June 21st). The lead single “Baby” is being slept on in my opinion, we need to give that more of a push at radio. However, the JE boys first release on Slip-N-Slide records sounds good, and with this early release of the album snippets, you can hear it for yourself.
